Apple has just lowered the price of Apple TV to € 79, which means that it is now less expensive to get one. What can we do with one of these devices? The remote control of our Apple TV can do much more than we think. Despite how simple it may seem, we bring you a list of functions that make the Apple TV remote control a very complete tool.
- The basics
With the roulette you can move through the menus and the central button of the roulette serves to TO SELECT what we want to choose. The button MENU is used to go back and the button with the symbols of PLAY y BREAK do the same, play and pause the display.
- Home
Press and hold the button for three seconds MENU to go from whatever screen you're on to the Apple TV home menu.
- Move or hide icons
Press and hold the button TO SELECT for two seconds to enter edit mode and reorder the icons. In this mode, we can press the button PLAY / PAUSE over one of the icons to hide it.
- Video Settings
Press and hold the button TO SELECT, for three seconds while watching an iTunes video to access the audio and subtitles settings.
- Rewinding
Press and hold the button left of the roulette wheel and you will go back thirty seconds in the playback. We can also simply press to go back continuously and if we press repeatedly we can vary the speed of the retreat: slow, medium or fast.
- Move along
Press and hold the button law of the roulette wheel to advance thirty seconds in the playback. As with rewinding, if we simply press it, we can advance continuously and choose between three speeds: slow, medium and fast.
- Slow motion
Press the button BREAK to freeze the image and then press, on the spinner, the buttons RIGHT o LEFT to move forward or backward in slow motion. To return to normal playback mode, simply hit PLAY.
- Jumps
Press the button BREAK and then press and hold, on the spinner, the buttons RIGHT o LEFT to go forward or backward. To continue playing, simply hit PLAY.
- Chapter jumps
Press the button on the roulette wheel DOWN to activate the chapter list. Press LEFT o RIGHT to advance or rewind to the next or previous chapter, respectively. If the video we are viewing is not structured in chapters, we will jump 30 seconds in the video.
- Mark episodes
If we are watching episodes of a television space on iTunes, we can mark the episodes as seen, individually or collectively. To do this, press and hold the button TO SELECT in the episode list.
- Change keyboard
Press PLAY / PAUSE in a text input field to switch between the alphabetic, numeric, or symbol keyboard. Press and hold the button TO SELECT for two seconds to display accented characters and select it by pressing the button PLAY / PAUSE when you are positioned on it.
- Restart
Press and hold the buttons DOWN + MENU for six seconds to restart Apple TV. Otherwise, you will have to get up and unplug it from the electrical current to solve temporary problems such as connection losses, blockages, etc.
- Sleep mode
Press and hold the button PLAY / PAUSE for five seconds to put Apple TV to sleep. Also keep in mind that if you don't do it, the device itself will go into this mode when it detects inactivity.
- Link / Unlink
Press and hold the buttons RIGHT + MENU for five seconds to pair the remote with an Apple TV. If what we want is to unlink a remote control that we have previously linked with an Apple TV, we must press and press the buttons LEFT + MENU for five seconds.
- Remote control application
There is a remote control app available for iPad or iPhone in the Apple App Store. There is also one available to install on the new Apple Watch. In this way, controlling our Apple TV is easier because we do not have to have a specific remote control, but our own iOS device does the functions. The best thing is that when entering text on Apple TV, for content searches, for example, the task becomes infinitely simpler and less tedious than with the remote control.
