The iPhone 8 will include a "revolutionary" front camera with 3D sensors

The iPhone of 2017, which we all call iPhone 8, although, in theory, this is not the name it touches, it will be a groundbreaking device, or at least that is what we hope. After three years marked by the same model, after continuous and persistent accusations of lack of innovation, and just as the tenth anniversary of the original iPhone is celebrated, Apple is "obliged" to mark, once again, a before and after. Virtually all the rumors point in the direction of a very different iPhone, with new materials, new design, and capabilities never seen before, at least not on an iPhone. And now popular analyst Ming Chi Kuo is once again seeding the rumor field by talking about a "revolutionary" camera system.

According to this guru, one of the biggest revolutions of the iPhone 8 will happen in its front camera, equipped with different modules that will allow facial recognition of the user in three dimensions. It is not a new rumor but, without a doubt, the fact that now it is Kuo who mentions it, gives it consistency.

The "revolution" of the iPhone 8 will take place on its front

So far there has been talk of several iPhone 8 models, however, there is one that would stand out from the rest. I mean that assumption iPhone 8 with curved OLED screen on its sides and that, if the rumors are confirmed, it would be something like an "iPhone 8 Premium" whose price you will not like to all.

Well, it will be precisely this iPhone 8 with an edge-to-edge OLED screen that you get a new 'revolutionary' front camera system, according to new predictions shared by KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo.

Said camera system will be made up of a total of three modules that, together, will offer Full-featured 3D detection capabilities. And where did Apple get the necessary technology for this great novelty? The answer lies in one of those "small" purchases that the company makes from time to time and about which it usually does not offer details. Specific, this front camera system with 3D capabilities will work from PrimeSense algorithms, a company that Apple acquired back in 2013.

The new camera system, as we have already mentioned, would be made up of three modules, including a front camera module already found on current iPhone devices, a infrared transmission module or with a infrared receiving module. With these three modules running, the camera will be able to find the precise location and exact depth of objects that are in front of her.

In addition, this could provide certain benefits, among which the facial recognition and identity verification through iris scan of user.

The camera will work by merging the depth information provided by the infrared transmission and reception modules, with the traditional 2D images captured by the front camera. Thus, this could not only be used for the rumored iris scanner of the iPhone 8, but also for other gaming applications and future virtual reality and / or augmented reality experiences.

This news of a "revolutionary" front camera for the iPhone 8 remains in line with previous rumors that speak of the possible disappearance or, at least, loss of importance of Touch ID, in favor of 3D facial recognition or iris scanning technologies, as main security mechanisms for the new device. JPMorgan analyst Rod Hall has stated that facial recognition could be a safer alternative that would also help increase the adoption of Apple Pay by retailers and financial institutions.

According to Kuo, this three-module camera system "will bring an innovative user experience" for the iPhone 8 OLED, but for now will be reserved as exclusive for that model. "Future iPhones may come with a similar system for the rear camera," the analyst noted.
