Nintendo, as they say, has just arrived on mobile devices. From the hand of best-selling Pokémon Go, the controversial Super Mario Run, and not forgetting the unexpected Fire Emblem Heroes. Mythical games that come with different business models and that you probably carry on your iDevices.
Super Mario Run It was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated, yes, we say that it came with controversy because if we wanted to enjoy it, removing some screens as a demo, we shoulds pay about € 10 to have the complete game. Something that many users did not like and that apparently it is not bringing much revenue to Nintendo either. Of course, the Nintendo guys themselves tell us that They prefer the Super Mario Run model to the freemium model, which according to them would be out of phase…
It seems to the guys at Nintendo the Freemium model seems somewhat outdated (Outlier), a model that hook users since if they want to enjoy the games in their entirety in the end they will have to go through the checkout if they do not want to waste time. And as we say, Nintendo has experience in both business models: the pay-per-game as with Super Mario Run, and the freemium with micropayments as Fire Emblem Heroes happens. And they say this after it has been verified that the Super Mario Run model is not reporting all the income that Nintendo would like….
And I will give you my point of view on all this controversy ... I think the paid model, as in the case of Super Mario Run, that is, pay for a game and forget about continuing to pay for it, it is much more interesting than the freemium model. I think that it benefits end users since, although for many it may be expensive € 10, a result of the philosophy of the all free, in freemium games we can end up spending much more than € 10 so obviously in the end we lose out. Anyway, in the end everyone is free to think what they want, everyone uses their devices for different purposes and you are, we are free, to want one model or another. I only tell you one thing: enjoy your iDevices.
The problem is not the payment, in fact, as a single payment, its biggest problem is always requiring data / wifi to work.
The difference is that in freemium games we CAN spend much more than € 10. In a game like Super Mario Run, on the other hand, they force us directly ...
I have to say that I have had and enjoyed many freemium games and I have never spent anything. Nothing at all. 0.
