Amazon continues to dominate the US smart speaker industry

Amazon Echo

Amazon, like WhatsApp at the time, was the first to reach the market for smart speakers hand in hand with the Echo speaker range in 2014, this allowed it to become the market leader, a market that continues to dominate and will do so in the coming years.

The latest figures published by eMarketer suggest that Amazon's current share in the United States is 72,9%, which represents an increase of 2% compared to 2018. This figure should fall in 2019 to 69,7% in 2020 and to 68.2% in 2021, as the new options on the market become more popular and well-known.

Amazon, one more year, is in the first position of the ranking with more than double the share that Google has31.1% at the end of 2019. While Amazon's share is estimated to decline in 2020 and 2021, Google's share is expected to rise to 31,7% in 2020 and 32% in 2021.

The rest of the market share is distributed, until it is 100%, was 2019% in 17,9, a share that will rise to 18,4% in 2020 and up to 18,8% in 2021. Within this category, we find both Apple's HomePod, like the Harmon Kardon speakers and the Sonos One.

According to Victoria Petrock, Principal Analyst at eMarketer:

Since Amazon first introduced the Echo, it has built a compelling lead in the US and continues to overcome the challenges of its major competitors.

We previously expected Google and Apple to make more inroads in this market, but Amazon has remained aggressive. By offering affordable devices and developing the number of Alexa skills, the company has kept the Echo's appeal.

The market for smart speakers in the United States, will grow to 83,1 million users, 13,7% more than the previous year, a growth that will decline by 2021.
