Apple working on an iPhone 17 Air: between the standard model and the Pro model

iPhone 17 Air

The days of August are running out and day by day we are getting closer to knowing when the day of the presentation of the next Apple iPhone 16 will be, which will take place in September. In addition to the large number of rumors we have around this device, there is also room for rumors around the next iPhone SE 4 or even the iPhone 17 that would be released in September 2025. In fact, A new rumor claims that Apple would be working on an iPhone 17 Air, a new model much thinner than the rest that would be located between the standard model and the Pro model. In addition, this model would help Apple launch "something much better" later.

Halfway between the standard model and the Pro model: the iPhone 17 Air

Currently, the iPhone 15 is sold in the standard model, the Plus model, the Pro and the Pro Max. However, if we look back we all remember the iPhone 12 mini, which was the experiment prior to the launch of the Plus model. As many expected, the mini model was not as successful and Apple ended up discontinuing it with the launch of the next generation. Since then, The iPhone models are intended to be maintained with a big difference: the standard models and the Pro models.

Apple could launch a high-end iPhone 17 superior to the Pro Max model

Analyst Mark Gurman has published in its Sunday bulletin new information about the next Apple devices and among them is the one that has been named iPhone 17 Air, a device that would see the light of day in September 2025 and that It would be halfway between the standard model and the Pro, that is, a kind of SE model but high-end. This new device would have a smaller Dynamic Island, with an aluminum chassis and a 6,6-inch screen with cameras better than the standard models but worse than the Pro models. A mix between the standard models and the Pro models.

But above all I would highlight his ultra-thin device layout hence the name "Air" inherited from the MacBook and the iPad, both with an Air model currently available in their latest generations. In fact, Apple will take advantage of the pull of the name and success around these two devices to try to sell it to consumers by highlighting the need for a more elegant iPhone than a standard model but without the high performance features of a Pro model. According to Gurman, Apple is already working with an idea around this model: "a much more attractive iPhone without the specifications of a normal iPhone."

This device would see the light in September 2025 in the keynote presentation of the iPhone 17 and apparently Apple seems to have foreseen that sales and success will be greater than with the mini model in the iPhone 12 and 13 and even the Plus models of the last three generations (until iPhone 15).
