Apple plans to update the AirPods line, introducing a third generation AirPods as well as a second for the AirPods Pro according to Bloomberg.
The Cupertino Giant is working on two new models: a third generation of the entry-level AirPods and a second version of the AirPods Pro according to sources related to its planning.
Corroborating old rumors about AirPods models, Bloomberg mentions a new entry model of AirPods with the same design as the current Pro, with a shorter temple and replaceable ear pads. However, despite having the same design, the functionalities would be limited and this would affect, for example, noise cancellation. In addition, it seems that Apple would be working on improving the battery of this entry model.
Regarding the second generation of the AirPods Pro, Apple would be working on a more compact version eliminating the short temple that the design of this model introduced last year. I would be testing a model with "a much more circular shape that fits the wearer's ear better," which would make them much more similar to Samsung's Buds.
As for the dates that the company would be handling, the entry model could arrive in the first half of next 2021. It is also rumored that by then, they will already equip a new chip wireless that would be in development to enhance both models. The original AirPods were launched in 2016 at a price of € 159 while it would not be until 2019 when they arrived with the wireless charging box. The Pro model, however, were launched in 2019 with a price of € 259 and wireless box included.
Apple would also be thinking of launching a new HomePod model that would be between the original HomePod and the HomePod Mini. announced this month according to information provided by Bloomberg.
Beyond the new AirPods models, Apple has also considered the possibility of launching a new intermediate HomePod whose features, price and sound quality are between the € 299 model and the recently announced € 99 HomePod Mini. It is unclear if Apple will eventually release this model or if it will choose to cut the price of the original model.
