Apple won't let Volkswagen show wireless CarPlay at CES 2016

It has recently been leaked that Apple has blocked the ability to show the version of wireless CarPlay that Volkswagen had planned during this CES 2016 in Las Vegas. Apple recently introduced Car Play functionality wirelessly with iOS 9, however, no vehicle-adapted receiver device has been released to the market yet. What we do not know is why Apple has not allowed Volkswagen to show this wireless version of CarPlay during CES 2016, since it would be an ideal scenario to show its possibilities and be the epicenter of many news.

It has been Volkmar Tannerberger, the Head of Development of electronic and electrical devices of Volkswagen who has made the statements in this regard to the magazine Car and Driver. However, he has not specified the reasons that Apple gave them for not making the following presentation, It is likely that the Cupertino company prefers to make its own demonstration or presentation of the system, as is usually so common in them, since they are not very likely to attend this type of consumer electronics device fairs.

On the other hand, Volkswagen has taken the opportunity to show its wireless connection service for mobile devices called MirrorLink at its CES stand, which basically reflects the content of the device on the vehicle's screen and we control it wirelessly, therefore it is not our own operating system, but a streaming mirror of the device software. Meanwhile the only thing you hear about CarPlay at CES is that Kenwood, JVC, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep have decided to go for CarPlay, while larger ones like Toyota go for SmartDeviceLink, the open source system promoted by Ford. Vehicle companies are still reluctant to include third-party operating systems in their cars for now, which is greatly slowing development of this technology.
