Disney + reaches 50 million subscribers 5 months after launch

November 2019 was a special month for the streaming video services market, as two new options arrived: Apple TV + and Disney +. The initial Apple TV + catalog could be counted on the fingers of one hand and everything was own production.

Disney + has based much of its strategy on offering access to almost its entire catalog  of series and movies from all the companies that he has bought in recent years, in addition to offering original content, although to a much lesser extent. According to the latest figures, the Disney + bet is working perfectly for him.

Disney has just announced that its streaming video service, Disney + just surpassed 50 million subscribers, just 5 months after its launch. The last number of subscribers that the company announced a couple of months ago, stated that the number of subscribers was 28,6 million. At that time, the service had not reached Europe and other countries.

Much of the growth that has experienced these last two months, in which it has gained 22 new million subscribers, is due to the international expansion of the service. Since last March 24, Disney + has been available in the United Kingdom, Italy, India, Spain, Germany, Switzerland and Austria and for a couple of days in France.

The growth that the platform has experienced is largely due to the confinement that a large part of the world population is following, as well as the novelty of a new streaming video service that initially does not offer the entire company catalog, and will continue not to do so in the coming years until the distribution agreements they have with other streaming video services are finalized.

Disney launched different promotions, some of them still in force, so that users they will hire a full year to their streaming video service, saving them a couple of monthly payments. Many are the people who have taken advantage of this offer (including myself), but once the first year is over, I will think twice about renewing my subscription.

The original content is very limited and the rest of the catalog are series and movies that I have already seen and do not particularly attract my attention. Disney knows that can not live on income And you have to put the batteries so that users see new content every month, and I do not mean new episodes.
