Talking about HomeKit is practically talking about Eve. The German manufacturer has an extensive catalog of products exclusively compatible with HomeKit, and has recently been expanded with a new accessory that will help us avoid damage to our house or those of our neighbors. Eve Water Guard is a water leak detector that can save us more than one headache. We have tested it and these are our impressions.
Very practical and simple
Having a water leak detector is so useful that it is difficult to understand why there is not one (or more) in every home. It is a very simple device that consists of a main unit that has to be plugged in (includes adapters for plugs from different countries), and a cable that is the one that will capture the humidity in the event of a leak. This cable is two meters long, so we can extend it to occupy a large area. This cable is covered with a textile material which is the one that will capture the humidity in case of leakage, communicating it to the main base which will be the one that will set off the alarm.
If we need a longer cable length, we can buy additional units, two meters each, and connect them with each other until the desired extension is covered. According to Eve we can extend the cable up to 150 meters, a real outrage. With a single detector you can, in this way, cover the entire kitchen to detect water leaks from any of the appliances that are usually in that room: washing machine, dishwasher, refrigerator ... A 100dB audible alarm and a flashing red light will notify you that the water has reached the area covered by the detector, in addition to the respective notification that will arrive on your HomeKit compatible device.
Integration with HomeKit
Thanks to the integration with HomeKit we have guaranteed that the configuration process is extremely simple, that the privacy of our data is guaranteed, and that the compatibility with all our devices with iOS, tvOS and macOS are compatible without the need to install any type of skill, or have to wait for translations into our language. Of course, we must bear in mind that this Eve Water Guard must be connected to the accessory center of our house, and that it has Bluetooth connectivity, so its range is limited.
If in our case this Water Guard is too far from the accessories center, we will have to acquire the repeater that Eve launched this past summer and that allows you to place Bluetooth accessories at great distances from the central, since this repeater will connect via WiFi to the control panel and via Bluetooth to the accessory in question. Once configured, we can only wait for it to notify us of a leak, or rather, that it never has to notify us.
