How much are the photos and videos on the iPhone 4?

The guys at iClarified have made a simple calculation on the size that both photos and videos will occupy on the new iPhone 4:

  • Photos: iPhone 3GS takes photos at 3MP and each photo occupies around 1,3MB. The new iPhone 4 has a 5MP camera which increases the size of each photograph to 2,7MB.
  • ADIEX: iPhone 3GS records video at 640 × 480 pixels and 30 frames per second. Therefore, 250 minutes of video recording on a 3GS takes up 9,66GB. The new iPhone 4 records at a resolution of 1280 × 720 at 30 frames per second, which means that 250 minutes of video occupy 21,73 GB.

It is clear that people who are going to use the new capabilities of the camera a lot will have to buy the 32GB version or else they will always walk with just enough space.

the iphone 3gs records 30 frames per second ??? Anyone would say it! Record well, but it's not 30 frames per second, or at least I don't see it that way

1,3 mb for each photo with the iPhone 3GS? What a pass! My omnia has a 5 mpx camera and the photos (which are quite good) occupy around 500kb

The video is recorded at 960 * 720? It was not at 1024 * 720? Come on, at least that is what I have read in all the sites

If you try to enter to check the points or the mobile catalog in movistar.es it has not been allowed for a while, they must be putting the prices of the iphone, in twiter they have already warned that they are going to spend the night preparing it, at any time we can enter and see the prices, it can be news 😀

Yes, all that is very nice but look at that there are obstacles later to be able to save your photos on the computer (if they are still apple content), the truth is that it bothers me a lot. I have an iPhone and I have to be researching like crazy and I still don't know how to save them in the original quality. It sounds weird to me that the photos weigh only 200k.

Alvaro, it will take up less, congratulations.

At least you will be able to fill those gigitas of memory with something, because you cannot do much more with that mobile, than because you can hardly even move the windows mobile ...

    Owned! XD

Not if you're right Adrian, that's why I'm crazy for catching the iPhone 4 because with the Omnia I do little ... xD I already tell you, camera and little else

Common sense, gentlemen. There is something called compression that gives a lot of play for video. Any of us sure has 3 movies out there that together take up 250 minutes and come in at 2GB.

The data they give there is raw, even the dumbest mobile compresses a lot. The iphone also compresses, this data is not real at all.

Nacho… when the screener has done damage… a well compressed 720p movie with a good bitrate occupies about 8GB of capacity and barely lasts an hour and a half. The iPhone already has enough to record at 720p to go about compressing it on the fly. I do not know if the data provided by the source will be 100% real but they are not misguided since my camera that records at 720p uses around 10gb per 100 minutes of video ... By the way, your name is the same as me!

    Do you record at 960 × 720! ??
Damn that is not high definition, well, yes it is, but in 4: 3 format, it is not panoramic…. 720p implies 1280 × 720 (16: 9 aspect ratio). By diox that cracked and that more absurd format (it has not been used so far in anything, everything that came out of high definition was 16: 9 or even 21: 9)

Do not stain, or that it was a reflex to record and take photos like that with that size
