More than 6000 ExxonMobil gas stations now support Apple Pay

Apple continues to expand the number of merchants where Apple Pay technology is supported. Although this time it could not be said that it is really Apple technology that allows users of ExxonMobil service stations to make payments through the iPhone. Since yesterday more than 6.000 Exxon and Mobil service stations distributed in 46 American states they can now use the iPhone to pay for fuel. This service will be expanded in the coming months to 2.000 more stations and by the end of the year it is expected to be available at all the company's gas stations distributed throughout the country, some 10.000.

But, as I said above, do not expect to be able to use the iPhone or Apple Watch at the pumps to make the payment, but the operation is different. To be able to use Apple Pay at these service stations, you first need the ExxonMobile application. Once we are in front of the pump, we have to open the application, automatically Through the GPS signal, it will locate in which service station we are and it will allow us to select the number of the pump where we are.

Once we have selected the pump number, we just have to dial the amount of fuel and confirm the purchase using the Touch ID of the iPhone. Following the spout will be activated and we will have 45 seconds to hang the hose fuel of our vehicle. Once the process is complete, the supplier will give us a receipt for the transaction.

This process may seem a bit complicated at first, for the 45 seconds that we have from when we pay until we put the hose in the vehicle, but according to the company it is an advantage since it allows us to save time when refueling. ExxonMobile claims that it uses this indirect method of payment to avoid having to buy terminals compatible with NFC technology, although you already have them, Speedpass for your company's cards, but apparently they are not compatible with Apple Pay.
