With the new version of Skype we are allowed to perform video calls from the iPhone on both Wifi and 3G. But obviously we must take into account the bandwidth consumption that we will have when using the application in 3G, since if we have a limit with our operator, we will not want get over it.
The web 9to5Mac You have already carried out the test: you have made a one-minute 3G call and the result has been a consumption of 3.5 megs per minute roughly, which is a high number. In total 1.3 megabytes were sent and 2.1 were received.
If you have contracted an unlimited internet connection, then you should not worry about data consumption. Yes indeed, insurance that the telephone operators will attack this option of Skype due to the considerable increase in the consumption of data packets.
I have it unlimited 🙂
Well, I don't really agree with them. I just did the test with 2 iphone 4s under 3G and the results in a 5 minute call with videoconference are 3,2Mb sent and 4Mb received. If we make the call with only audio, the results are 2,9Mb sent and 3Mb received. If we do the calculations per minute, it gives us an average of 1,4Mb per minute in the case of a videoconference. And the calculations for an audio-only call are 1,18Mb.
Have if anyone confirms this. Still the Viber application consume much less Mbs per minute. Also Tango connsumes less than Skype but with much less image quality.
I stay with Skype !!!!!!
The same as the final size of an image when compressing it in jpg does not depend only on the width and height of the image, in the case of a conversation the same happens, with pauses and without background noise it will be compressed better and will occupy less size. Nor will a call to a Skype user be the same as a conference between several.
