Last Monday WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook stopped working for approximately 6 hours, a fall as usual, took advantage of the Telegram messaging platform, who received more than 70 million new users in one day, according to Pavel Durov, CEO of Telegram through his Twitter account.
In the same tweet, Durov welcomed all the new users who took advantage of WhatsApp's downfall by becoming a new record of new users in just one day. This umpteenth fall of WhatsApp, only confirms that you can not live only with WhatsApp as the only messaging platform.
I'm proud of how our team has managed this unprecedented growth because Telegram has continued to run smoothly for the vast majority of our users. That said, some users from America may have experienced slower speed than usual as millions of users from these continents rushed to sign up for Telegram at the same time.
In another tweet, Durov invited his users to greet the newcomers, a functionality available through the application, and to help them unpack. In the same tweet, the CEO of Telegram also states that Telegram is light years ahead of the competition in terms of functionality.
The latest official number of Telegram users is from January 2021 with 500 million users worldwide. A figure that can currently be around 650-700 million if we take into account the massive migration to Signal and Telegram that occurred at the beginning of the year when WhatsApp announced the integration of all its platforms and this latest WhatsApp crash.
