We tested Iconical, the app that allows you to change application icons without jailbreak

Yesterday we spoke to you for the first time about iconic, an application that stands out for allowing change icon of some applications that are in the App Store no need to jailbreak. Actually, the original icon does not modify it but rather creates a shortcut that we can give the visual aspect that we want.

Among the options available when customizing an icon, we can choose a photo saved in the memory of the iOS device, make one with the camera, paste a link to a photo hosted on the Internet or draw the icon ourselves with the available tools. Once we have chosen the appearance of the icon, Iconical will take us to Safari from there, place the shortcut we have designed inside the springboard.

It is a simple, fast process and most importantly, it works perfectly. The only downside is that not all applications are compatible. The developers claim that there are about 14.000 that allow you to create a shortcut with a personalized icon but to further narrow the range, Iconical will give us a list of the apps that we have installed and that we can modify.

Another feature that Iconical offers is to be able to create direct access to custom actions. In this case, the compatibility list is reduced to just over 200 applications. Thanks to this functionality, we can create an icon that runs Skype and automatically calls a certain number, the same for the official phone application on the iPhone. If you use Gmail, you can design an icon that, when pressed, writes an email with a predetermined subject, that is sent to a specific recipient or with the content that we want. The options are very varied and depend on the application in question.

Finally, another point in favor of Iconical is that we can remove the app and the created icons will continue to function normally.

Iconical for iPad

It is clear that Iconical works but we have doubts. For example, in iOS 7 beta 4 there is a bug that prevents its correct execution, something that does not happen in previous betas and that the developers of Iconical hope that it will be solved for iOS 7 beta 5.

The second question we have is whether Apple will allow this type of application for a long time. It is true that it does not violate any publishing policy in the App Store but it is also true that it uses «Tricks»That Apple does not usually like. Let's hope that the application is not removed from the App Store unfairly or that it stops working correctly because the possibility of creating shortcuts to other applications is eliminated.

If you want to try Iconical, you can download it for 0,99 euros during this weekAfter that, its price will double.

Already ... yesterday we commented that it was a fix and obviously, it is not always worth "customizing" at the cost of losing functions. Greetings!

"App Icons" does something similar and it is free, always bearing in mind that any app that supports notification balloons, with these new icons, you will not have them ...
