Verification-two-steps-06

Two-step verification is now available in Spain, and this time it seems definitive. The new security mechanism to protect the privacy of your Apple account has just been extended to Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan. This is a highly recommended new security system to prevent hackers from accessing your account, since it requires approval of any change you make using a device that you configure as "trusted". We give you all the details and explain how to configure it below.

What is two-step verification?

Verification-two-steps-01

Until now, any change you made to your Apple ID account, or any device you added to your account only needed your password. It was also possible to change that password by means of two simple questions that you previously configured. This two-step verification system goes further by requires you to verify your identity before performing any of these tasks:

  • Sign in to your Apple ID account from any browser to make changes
  • Make an iTunes, App Store, or iBooks Store purchase on a new device
  • Get help from Apple Support on issues related to your Apple ID

How It Works

Verification-two-steps-20

Every time you want to perform one of the tasks that we have indicated before you will be asked to confirm that it is you. How do you do that? Using one of the devices that you have previously configured as "trusted", a phone number to which an SMS can be sent, or using the recovery key that will be given to you when activating the service.

How do I configure it?

Verification-two-steps-03

The first thing is to access your Apple ID account. Once you have entered your username and password you must select the menu Password and Security and answer the two security questions you set up at the time.

Verification-two-steps-05

Within the «Two-step verification» menu you must select the «Get Started» option to begin the activation process. This is a relatively long but fairly intuitive procedure. You are informed about what the security mechanism itself is and you must click on «Continue» to continue. Read the advantages and disadvantages of the security mechanism and click on continue if you want to continue.

We come to one of the most important steps: choose trusted device (s), for which you have to click on «Verify». They must be devices that are configured with your account and with the option "Find my iPhone" activated. If they appear blurred, make sure they are connected to the internet and click on the update button at the bottom of the screen.

Verification-two-steps-11

The moment you click on Verify, a password will appear on the screen of your device, which you must enter in your browser window and click on «Verify Device».

Verification-two-steps-12

You will also be asked to add a mobile number to which they will send an SMS with another code that you will also have to enter in a new window.

Verification-two-steps-14

Once the device and phone number have been added, we can proceed with activating the service.

Verification-two-steps-15

It will then be given to us a recovery key, which we will have to print and save as gold on cloth for future occasions. This password will be the only way to recover your user password in case you forget it. You must also enter it in the next window.

Verification-two-steps-17

You are again informed of the service drawbacks two-step verification, and by clicking on "Enable two-step Verification" you will have already activated the service.

Verification-two-steps-18

From this moment your Apple account will be more protected than ever. By accessing the «Password and Security» menu, you can modify the trusted devices, eliminating those that you no longer use or adding new ones.

Important things you should not forget

As Apple itself reports, There are three very important things that you should always keep in mind:

  • Remember your Apple ID password
  • Have your trusted device
  • Have your recovery key

If you lose two of these three items, you may be unable to access your account forever, since Apple's technical service will not be able to reset your password or recover it. You will need at least two of these three items to be able to recover or reset your password. If at any time you lose any of the three items, you must immediately replace it with a new one, be it a new key, a new recovery key or a new trusted device.
