The arrival of September is synonymous with the launch of new operating systems officially at Apple. Over the next few weeks we will know the launch day of iOS, tvOS, and iPadOS 15, in addition to macOS Monterey and watchOS 8. Three months of testing with developers and users enrolled in the public beta program will end a new cycle of operating systems. However, many already set their sights on next year. This concept shows what some want to appear in Watch 9 with the arrival of widgets to the smart watch, redesign of the home screen and much more which we analyze below.
Widgets, home screen redesign, and more in this watchOS 9 concept
This concept comes from the hand of the medium 9to5mac that has been ahead of almost any other developer in showing what their predictions would be for the arrival of watchOS 9 next year. The concept parses watchOS items focusing on which of them need a makeover or a change of concept to increase the usefulness of the device.
The first change introduced in the concept are three new dials for the Apple Watch. The first would have multiple layouts in the original Macintosh font. This design could be with hands, with all the hour numbers on the screen, with the mythical apple background or with a black background and the letters in classic Apple colors. Another new sphere would be introduced by Ted Lesso. Depending on the concept, some spheres should be more fun and less functional, because watchOS 9 would have to have everything. This sphere would feature Ted who would change his face, giving the sphere a fun touch.
Finally, the last sphere called 'Relax' would introduce animated backgrounds that would change every time we consult the Apple Watch and the color of the time would vary depending on the animated background that it had. These new dials would give a much-needed touch of creativity in a big watchOS update.
A promising future for an ever-growing smartwatch
The watchOS home screen hasn't changed much since the first operating system. Remember that it is the famous bee panel with all the applications installed on the Apple Watch. However, for many the design has become obsolete and the functionality of this organization is nil. That is why watchOS 9 could include a change in the organization of this home screen.
As you can see, the concept shows a vertical organization of applications organized three by three. In fact, we would welcome folders that could be created by placing one app over another. In addition, we could modify the position of applications as we do in iOS or iPadOS: by pressing on an app and accessing the edit mode. Thus, the customization of the main applications would be available even on the home screen.
The most drastic change in the concept of watchOS 9 comes when they analyze the why of the applications, the complications and the control center. Currently, the control center allows the user to access specific actions quickly. In this concept it is advocated by redesign the control center in watchOS 9 allowing developers to build their own applications as widgets and not as applications. What's more, the concept ensures that many applications should not exist and should only be as widgets.
The creation of this new type of content would be available thanks to the use and expansion of the WatchKit SDK that developers use to build and integrate their apps in watchOS. Some interesting widgets could be the query of the battery of our devices, new shortcuts integrated in the control center or the visualization of aspects of the Activity app directly from the control center.
One way or another watchOS 9 is intended to be a turning point in the Apple Watch operating system. For many, watchOS 8 was going to materialize that change that had been requested since watchOS 3. However, all their hopes fell when Apple presented a continuous operating system at WWDC 2021. We will see if in June 2022 Apple offers us a redesigned operating system to power a growing device.
