Analyze your device usage patterns to manage battery

iPhone-charging

Any user of mobile devices who is asked about what would improve them will surely include battery life in their answers. This is one of the main negative points, especially in smartphones, but also in laptops and tablets. And worst of all is that little progress has been made in recent years, quite the contrary. We have new, more powerful mobile devices, with more features, and at most we get the battery to last the same as older devices. A new patent published today talks about a new system that Apple wants to use to improve the battery management of its mobile devices.

Battery-patent

The patent describes a system that analyzes your habits in the use of the device, estimates the time until the next charge, assessing whether the device has enough energy for it. In the event that there is insufficient battery power according to your calculations, the system will disable features that it thinks are not required at the time to save battery power. The system will also memorize the most frequent "loading places" using the device's location systems. Depending on your location and the time until the next charging location, you can calculate the time required until you can connect your device to the network.

The system would also allow some customization, allowing the user to enter data that allows better management of battery consumption. ¿How about a user profile system that allows you to quickly change the active functions of the device? Deactivating the data network at home and at work when you have a WiFi connection, or deactivating the WiFi when you are on the street using the data connection is one of the most basic options that could be implemented and that would surely add a few minutes of autonomy.
