App Store downloads down 5% in the last quarter

App store

Practically since the launch of the App Store, the only official option to install applications on both the iPhone and the iPad and iPod touch, the application store has become a very important source of income, both for Apple and obviously for developers . In recent years, Apple has started betting on subscriptions, a model that is not to everyone's liking.

Subscriptions are the best method for developers to earn income over time, rather than generating one-time income when the application is sold, but many are the users who they are not willing to pay every month for the use, sporadic or not, that they can make of certain applications.

At the end of the month, Apple will announce financial results for the first quarter of 2019. Unsurprisingly, analysts have already started to announce their predictions. Morgen Stanley claims that App Store downloads have seen a quarter-on-year decline for the first time since 2015 of 5%. However, it ensures that this decline it does not mean a drop in the revenue that Apple makes every month from its app store.

While it is true that this decline could cause alarm among shareholders, Morgan Stanley notes that the revenue from the app store is closely tied to spend per download, not just the overall number of downloads. This descent not necessarily indicative of consumer app trends, and that net app store revenue is more correlated with spend per download through in-app purchases.

Next April 30 we will leave doubts, as it is the date that Apple has chosen to announce the figures for the first quarter of 2019, the second fiscal quarter for Apple.
