Apple claims iOS 10.2.1 fixes iPhone 6 and 6s unexpected shutdown issue

For the past few months, iPhone 6, 6s, 6 Plus, and 6s Plus users have had to deal with an issue that causes their devices to turn off unexpectedly, a problem that Apple now says is has successfully tackled in the latest iOS 10.2.1 update, released to the public on January 23rd.

In a statement collected by TechCrunch, Apple states that the update to IOS 10.2.1 has resulted in a eighty percent reduction of problems leading to an unexpected shutdown of the iPhone 6s and a reduction of the same sudden shutdown problem of seventy percent of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

With iOS 10.2.1, Apple made improvements to reduce the occurrences of unexpected shutdowns that a small number of users were experiencing with their iPhone. iOS 10.2.1 already has more than 50% of the active iOS devices updated and the diagnostic data that we have received from the improvements introduced shows that for this small percentage of users who experience the shutdown problem, we are seeing a reduction of more than the 80% on the iPhone 6s and a reduction of more than 70% on the iPhone 6. We have also added the ability to reboot the phone without connecting to a power source when a user is still faced with an unexpected shutdown. It is important to note that these unexpected shutdowns are not a security issue, but we understand that it can be inconvenient and we wanted to fix the issue as quickly as possible. If a customer has a problem with their device they can contact AppleCare.

The Cupertino-based company recommends that users who are experiencing unexpected shutdowns on their iPhone 6 or 6s devices should update their operating system to iOS 10.2.1 if they have not already done so.

I paste a comment I made this morning on another blog:

This update did not solve anything for me, on the contrary, it got worse, at 11 in the morning I no longer had a battery, and it turned off with 60 or 70%. I called Apple's support phone several times and the only thing they can tell me is to be patient and wait for the next update.

What I did was go to a mobile phone repair shop and for € 18 they changed my battery in 15 minutes. Problem solved, I have been with the new battery for a week and everything is perfect, it has not turned off again and the battery reaches me at 12 at night with 30 or 40%. Right now it is 11:41 in the morning and I have 96%.

(I update. Now it is 15:24 and I have 77%)

Correct. The iPhone 6 keeps turning off in the same way. It is a phone that you cannot trust. I will think about it a lot before repeating Apple if they do not solve it.

You have to restore without loading backup and the problem is solved. If it continues to happen to you after this, there is a physical failure in the battery and you should go to an Apple Store or authorized supplier.
