Apple confirms affiliate program changes

For a couple of weeks we have been talking about the change that Apple's affiliate program has undergone, a program with which websites that add links to applications obtain a percentage of the sales that occur. The first rumor to appear stated that Apple would reduce at the beginning of this month of May the commissions obtained by the websites that are part of the affiliate program, going from 7% to 2,5%, for both applications and in-app purchases. The following week several developers stated that the percentage reduction only affected in-app purchases, where the percentage had been reduced to 2,5%. To clarify these doubts in the developer community, Apple has released a statement clarifying this situation.

On the website of the Apple affiliate program, the guys from Cupertino have published a post in which they confirm that only commissions for in-app purchases have been reduced from 7% to 2,5%, while application sales commissions remain at 7%, therefore, users of this program will continue to receive 7% of sales of music, movies, books and applications for both iOS and Apple TV.

Apple, as usual, has not explained the reason that led the company to make this decision, but it is very likely that it was motivated by the discomfort expressed by developers in this regardAs the majority of current in-app purchases come from subscriptions that are renewed month-to-month. It should be borne in mind that Apple reduced the percentage obtained for each past subscription from 30% to 15%, once a year has elapsed since the subscription, a movement to encourage developers to use this revenue stream among developers .
