Apple continues to dominate the wearable device market in the second quarter of this year, thanks toa good reception of sales of its AirPods and Apple Watch. It undoubtedly has great merit, for two reasons that a priori should subtract sales from these devices.
The first is the price. Both the watch and the headphones they struggle in a market flooded with cheap "like" devices. And the second, that Apple "forces" you to have an iPhone in the case of the Apple Watch, and recommended in the case of AirPods, if you want to have all the functions that Apple headphones offer you.
According to an article published by IDC, Apple remains the best-selling manufacturer of wearable devices in the second quarter of this year. Little joke.
Global sales of wearable devices has grown by 14,1% during the second quarter of 2020, thanks to the strong demand for headphones such as AirPods, and the continued interest of the population in having their health monitored due to the happy global pandemic that affects us all.
The main providers like Apple, Huawei and Xiaomi have gained market share, while other providers struggled to attract new customers. Fitbit declined notably 29,2 percent. it is clear that the quality and reliability of the health data obtained by such devices has prevailed over price.
Apple has sold 5,9 million more wearables in the second quarter of 2020 compared to the same period of the previous year; an increase of 25,3 percent. The company's wearables market share has grown from 31,1% to 34,2%. Huawei followed in a distant second place, selling 18,5 million fewer units than Apple.
Another outstanding fact is that headphones have been in considerably stronger demand than smartwatches and fitness trackers, growing 32,6 percent and accounting for 60 percent of all wearables during the quarter.
Apple also dominates in this sector, selling 23,7 million AirPods and Beats in total, followed by Samsung and Xiaomi. Without a doubt an absolute outrage.
If we take into account that the Apple Watch Series 6 is just around the corner, along with probably new headphones also from Apple, it is not surprising that the next quarter and the following Apple will make this 2020 full as the leading brand in sales of wearable products.
