As expected, Apple has just released the fifth Beta of iOS 12.2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, as well as for tvOS 12.2 and watchOS 5.2. This new preview version, intended for developers only at the momentIt could be the last before the final version is released this March, who knows if coinciding with the event that Apple could have prepared for the end of the month.
This iOS update is mainly focused on the integration of certain television brands with HomeKit, but it also brings some aesthetic changes such as improvements or changes in system icons such as AirPlay or the remote control application interface.
The arrival of televisions to HomeKit and AirPlay will be one of the great novelties of this new version of iOS. Unfortunately there are few current models that will support it, but yes it will be almost common in the new models that are launched from 2019. Turning the TV on or off and raising the volume is something that can already be done with this integration, in addition to being able to use the iPhone as a remote control by selecting the input source. Hopefully this is just the beginning and soon we will be able to perform more functions using our voice, such as changing the channel.
iOS 12.2 also includes some details about future news that Apple has not yet presented, such as the imminent arrival of some AirPods that will not need a double tap to invoke Siri, but can do so by saying "Hey Siri", as is already the case with the iPhone, iPad and HomePod. Also a future subscription service to newspapers and magazines that Apple could present in the next event, of which we still do not have official confirmation but that should not take long to happen if it is really planned for the end of March.
