One of the half novelties that Apple presented to us at the last developer conference where the novelties of iOS 9 were presented, a little less than a year ago, were the new functions that the Maps application would receive, an application that little by little has been gaining ground on Google Maps but which still has a long way to go.
Apple is currently offering information on public transportation in several cities in United States, Europe, China and Australia. The expansion of this new service that offers us the possibility of planning trips by public transport is being slower than normal.
Montreal is the last city to allows us to plan our trips or routes by public transport directly from the application. In this way we can organize an excursion or a trip around the city without having to depend on a rented vehicle, our own or resort to taxis. Apple Maps not only gives us information about public bus transport, provided by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM), but also gives us information about the metro lines that cover most of the city.
The public transport information covers different neighborhoods of the city including Blainville, Boucherville, Brossard, Châteauguay, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Laval, Longueuil, Repentigny, Saint-Jérôme, Saint-Lambert and Terrebonne. From Apple they assure that they will soon add information on public transport of the towns closest to the city that in this update have been left out for the moment.
For now, as I have commented above, few cities have information related to public transport on Apple maps but little by little those of Cupertino are working to offer these functions in more countries. Currently the cities where it is available are: Baltimore, New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Berlin, Mexico City, London, Sydney and various locations in China.
