As in many products launched by those of Cupertino, we could have doubts of the success of Apple Music when the apple music streaming service was launched, but time has ended by proving them right. It has not been two years since Tim Cook and company launched their service and now, according to Eddy Cue, Apple Music has already exceeded 20 million users "by a lot", and here it is important to remember that it only counts paying subscribers.
Eddy Cue gave the new information yesterday at the Recode Media Conference, where he also said that Apple Music continues to grow, that Tim Cook and company are still not satisfied with their numbers and that will continue to push to grow much more. In fact, previous statements Jimmy Iovine claimed that they are trying to "create a whole pop cultural experience", which suggests that Apple wants to be the reference in the world of music and not just another option.
Apple Music surpassed 20 million users in December
On this occasion, Cue did not give an exact number of Apple Music subscribers, but said that the number had passed "well over 20 million." Those in Cupertino announced 20 million users of their streaming music service in December, so the more than likely increase of several million users in two months is an important milestone. For comparison, the previous time Apple gave exact Apple Music subscriber numbers was in September, three months before, and said that had reached 19 million users.
On the other hand, responding to a question about Apple's efforts to secure exclusive music content rights, Cue said that exclusive rights are more of a promotional strategy than a long-term artist movement and that exclusives will never be "good for a long-term base" in the music industry. Cue also explained that part of Apple's strategy is not to secure these exclusives, but to work with artists from start to finish, as they have done with artists like Drake.
There are only two questions to be resolved: Where is the ceiling of Apple Music? Will it ever surpass Spotify?
