Apple Music retains the rights to Mixes and DJ Mixes

Eddy Cue

The "Mixes" or DJ mixes have always been very famous, who has never had a tape with a recorded session that he has put in his car? But get your rights to broadcast your music on streaming it can be a very difficult task. The reason is simple: in one of these sessions there can be up to 600 different rights. But Apple has reached an agreement with distributor Dubset that will allow Apple Music broadcast thousands of these mixes.

According to Billboard, who are "Thousands upon thousands of sessions and hours of great mixes will come out of hiding and put on the world's second subscription music service […] Dubset will use its own technology called MixBank to analyze a mix or long-play mix from a DJ, identify recordings within the archive and correctly pay record labels and music publishers«.

Apple Music to broadcast DJ sessions

MixBank checks the recordings, as well as the underlying compositions, and controls the controls and restrictions set by the rights owners. For example, rights owners can blacklist an artist, album, or song. They can also create a rule to limit the length of a song used in a mix or remix. Rights owners can prevent an artist from linking to other artists and can control in which territories the content will and will not be.

This is great news for all DJs and remixers that they have always looked for get benefits from your jobs. On the other hand, it also seems good news for all those who like this type of music and did not have it available on Apple Music. The question that remains for me when reading this news is whether these sessions will be included in Beats 1 (free) or will only be available by subscription. In the first case, it would be a great improvement for the free mode of Apple Music, don't you think?
