Apple Music prepares an announcement this week: HiFi and spatial audio

Apple has its new HiFi service for Apple Music ready, and to the rumors about this new announcement now we have to add an advance that the company itself offers us in the Apple Music application: "Music is about to change forever."

Apple Music HiFi could arrive tomorrow, May 18. This was assured by the latest rumors, which in recent weeks have been increasingly detailed about the characteristics of this new musical service "without loss of quality." Apple would thus join other services that already offer music in HiFi streaming, such as Tidal, Deezer or Amazon Music. Apple Music's main competitor and market leader, Spotify, announced its HiFi platform for this year 2021, without specifying a launch date. these services. HiFi offers music without loss of quality, something that happens when the music is compressed so that it takes up less space and its download does not consume as much data traffic.

This lossless system requires an internet connection with good bandwidth, and also takes up more space on our device, two important aspects that users must take into account. As an example, a 3 minute song can consume up to 145MB with 24-bit / 192kHz HiFi quality, while with the usual compression system it could be 1.5MB or 6MB if we opt for higher quality. In this way, Apple has prepared an adaptive system in which the user can choose what quality they want, but which is also modified depending on the conditions of the internet connection available at all times.

This HiFi music will be noticed when we use our HomePods at home, or listen with our high-end headphones via cable. But what about our Bluetooth headphones? It is not necessary to argue too much about how little HiFi music contributes when we use Bluetooth headphones to listen to it. Even the best educated ears admit that the differences are almost negligible because the Bluetooth connection is a bottleneck whereby there is hardly any change between a good high quality codec and a HiFi service. But Apple could have something else prepared that we can already test with movies: spatial audio. Something very similar could come to Apple Music, achieving a more immersive, three-dimensional sound or whatever you want to call it, and that would change the experience of users with Bluetooth headphones, although not all models will be compatible.

And what about the price? According to rumors Apple would not vary the price of its HiFi service, being the first platform that would choose to offer its users this musical quality at no extra cost. Tidal is priced at € 19,99 on individual accounts and € 29,99 on family accounts. Deezer offers its HiFi service for € 14,99 per month on individual accounts. We do not know the price of Spotify HiFi which is not available yet. Apple Music is priced at $ 9,99 for individual accounts and $ 14,99 for family accounts. If the non-price increase is confirmed, Apple Music would have made things very difficult for its competitors.
