Apple patents an external flash for the iPhone

Flash for iPhone

A new Apple patent related to iPhone teaches us an external lighting system, designed as a complement to those photographs at night or in poor lighting conditions.

This external flash for iPhone it would use several LEDs as a light source, a system that is not as effective as a Xenon flash but that may be more suitable for a device like the iPhone in which the battery is not its main virtue.

With this accessory, the rear camera of the iPhone would enjoy a supplementary lighting system, something that allows you to enhance the quality of the image on objects or when taking close-ups.

Precisely, the mobile camera has as main weakness the photos in low lighting, something that causes the appearance of noise and a very palpable loss of sharpness. The iPhone 6 and the processing that software that makes iOS 8 have improved this aspect a lot, achieving quite remarkable results for a smartphone, however, the penalty caused by having low light is more than evident.

We do not know if Apple will one day dare to manufacture a external LED flash for iPhone but in any case, the patent already has it.

Remember that the LED flash that accompanies the rear camera of the iPhone has been subject to improvement for several generations in a row. The iPhone 5s introduced the flash truetone based on two LEDs of different shades to achieve a warmer and more natural lighting. In the case of the iPhone 6, this flash has been redesigned to offer a circular appearance and in my opinion, it has a bit more intensity thanks to its slightly larger reflectors.

As always, time will reveal to us if this patent ends up becoming a reality or ends up in that huge drawer of things that will never see the light of day.
