Apple Pay is already the most used mobile payment system in the US; overtakes PayPal

Apple Pay

Since its launch in late 2014, Apple Pay has been expanding steadily and rapidly… at least in some countries. In Spain we are still able to use Apple's mobile payment service with only 4 cards, but in the United States it can already be used in all types of establishments and with all types of cards, which has made Apple Pay has become the mobile payment service most used in the North American country.

The mobile payment service on the block is the most supported by US establishments, with 36% of them accepting payments today. This contrasts with the 16% of establishments that were compatible with the service now a year ago. But it does not end there: 22% of physical stores in the country plan to accept payments with Apple Pay in the next 12 months, while another 11% will do so in 1 to 3 years. In this way, Within 3 years, Apple Pay will be able to be used to pay in 69% of US establishments.

Moreover, PayPal is accepted in 34% of establishments from the United States, followed by Mastercard PayPass with 25%, Android Pay with 24%, Visa Checkout with 20%, Samsung Pay with 18%, Chase Pay with 11% and other private mobile payments with 4% .

Mobile payments are here to stay, as evidenced by the fact that 18% of the 500 largest establishments in the US plan to accept Android Pay in the next 12 months (another 13% in 1 to 3 years). As for Samsung Pay, 11% of establishments will add support in the next 12 months (another 7% in 1 to 3 years).

The data collected in this study only shows information from the United States. As you know, in countries like Spain these types of payments are not so widespread. Hopefully its availability improves in the short term.

How is it possible that there are differences in the forms of payment accepted in each establishment?

Supposedly any Contactless POS can accept any form of payment, right?
