Apple Pay expansion in Central America will begin in Costa Rica

Apple Pay Costa Rica

Since its introduction and subsequent market launch in 2014, Apple Pay has gradually expanded to more countries, however, Latin America is one of the regions that Apple seems to have forgotten. At least until now, since according to the guys at 9to5Mac, Apple is preparing the expansion of Apple Pay in Central America from Costa Rica.

According to this medium, Apple Pay is preparing its launch in Costa Rica with bank BAC Credomatic. If this news is confirmed, Costa Rica would be the second country in Spanish-speaking America to receive this functionality after Mexico. In Brazil, Apple Pay has been in operation since the last Olympic Games held in 2016.

In this way, Costa Rica would become the First Central American Country to Receive Apple Pay Support, a feature that is already available in more than 60 countries. Apparently, BAC Credomatic began testing support for Apple Pay in Costa Rica a few weeks, support that will be available to VISA and Mastercard users initially.

To see if a bank's plans are close to adopting Apple Pay, the bank should show that it is compatible with Apple WalletThis compatibility is not currently offered by the official BAC Credomatic application, but the one available through Test Flight.

If we take into account that BAC Credomatic is not only available in Costa Rica, but also has a presence in other countries such as El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, The Bahamas and Grand CaymanAs the launch occurs in Costa Rica, it will likely be a matter of days before Apple Pay reaches other countries.
