Apple Pay is now official in Spain with Santander, AMEX and Carrefour

Yesterday Applesfera announced it and we immediately echoed it, and today it is official: Apple Pay is already one more payment system in Spain. If at first there was only talk of Banco Santander within the Apple mobile payment system, in the end there have been several financial entities that have entered Apple Pay: Banco Santander, American Express (AMEX), Carrefour with your PASS card and Edenred with the Restaurant ticket cards. If you have any of these cards, you can now use them to pay comfortably with your iPhone, Apple Watch and Mac.

Yesterday we explained how you could add your cards to Apple Pay to use them, although Throughout today we will publish a more extensive report with all the details of how to use Apple Pay in your day to day to make all payments from your iPhone and your Apple Watch, without having to take your wallet out of your pocket at all. Contrary to what some information publishes, the only thing that is needed is a Contactless terminal, already very widespread in our country, so almost any business is already prepared to receive Apple payments without having to make any type of investment.

It is expected that once the shield that the banks put when negotiating with Apple to implement their mobile payment system has been broken, many will now be added to Apple Pay little by little. Only one major financial institution, Banco Santander, has been added, but it is to be hoped that the rest (BBVA, Bankia, CaixaBank, etc.) will soon reach Apple Pay and the payment system will become a reality for the majority of Spaniards. We will continue to inform you with any news that appears in this regard, because it seems that it will be a busy end of the year.

It's funny, the Apple Pay option still doesn't appear to me in Wallet, even though I have everything correctly configured (Spanish region in the Apple ID and in the iPhone, which is a 6 Plus). I have 10.1.1 on my phone (14B100) and I don't get new updates via OTA, but I do get when I connect it to iTunes (another version of 10.1.1). Can someone who works for Apple Pay tell me the distribution of its version 10.1.1?

10.1.1 (14B100) on iPhone 6 without problem. I added it this morning and I have already used it to drink coffee in a small business (Santander MasterCard)

Ok, it seems to be a bug. Finally I have solved it this way:

-Change system region to one compatible with Apple Pay (for example UK)
-Open Wallet and Apple Pay will appear, select add new card.
-We leave the Wallet app on that screen to add card and without closing the multitasking app, we return to the settings and change the region to Spain again.

With that, when you return to the Wallet app, Apple Pay will appear unlocked.

With an Iphone 7Plus 10.1.1 14b100 bought in Apple store Spain, the option to add cards does not appear either. If I modify the region and put Uk yes, although I have not tried to add a card. I'm going to reset the phone to see what happens. Greetings

A small comment yesterday you commented that it was only for iPhone 6 and later, I have an iPad air 2 and I also get the ApplePay option, it is not a criticism, much less it is to see if it really can or is only via the web

Only via the web or within apps, you cannot pay in physical stores

Take the Santander ones, yes, but be careful because you don't take the VISA; only MasterCard at the moment
