Apple has announced the launch of a new hardcover book, which will be available in the United States for $ 199 or $ 299, through apple.com. In addition, it will be available in official Apple stores starting today, Wednesday 16. The book traces the history of 20 years of Apple design, from the iMac in 1998 to the new Apple Pencil in 2015. The book consists of 450 photographs of Apple products, both new and old, including the well-known iPhone, iPod and Apple Watch, which, how could it be otherwise, are the stars of the work.

The book is titled "Designed by Apple in California" and the publication is dedicated to Steve Jobs. As additional content, Jony Ive himself has also conducted a video interview in which he comments on different aspects of the commemorative book. The book is available in two sizes and is printed on special milling paper. The covers of the book have silver edges. According to Apple, the book was developed over a period of eight years and the publication is entirely carried out by the company itself, without the involvement of a third party or a partner specialized in the literary or publishing field.

Inside the book there are many full-page images, which are the work of photographer Andrew Zuckerman. Through them the finished products are shown, as well as their design process. "Designed by Apple in California" features a total of 450 images spanning twenty years of Apple product design.

Jony Ive himself describes the purpose of the book as follows: “While this is a design book, it is not about the design team, the creation process, or product development. It is an objective representation of our work that, ironically, describes who we are in essence. It describes the way we work, our values, our concerns and our objectives. We have always expected to be defined by what we do and not by what we say. We strive, with varying degrees of success, to define objects that appear effortlessly. The objects that appear in a simple, coherent and inevitable way that there can be no rational alternative ”.

The work is described as a photographic archive, focusing primarily on full-page photos of the iPhone, Apple Watch, iPod, Mac, and many more. In the press release, the company's chief designer, Jony Ive, says the book is a working archive: “This archive is intended to be an elegant summary of many of the products that the team has designed in recent years. . We hope it provides a good overview of how and why they exist, while we want it to act as a resource for students of all design disciplines.

As a collector's item, the book will only be available from Apple retailers directly. As of today, the book is available from the Apple website in the following countries: United States, United Kingdom, Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. In the same way, the work can also be purchased in a special series of official Apple stores. On this point, the list of them is not known, since it has not yet been made public. The book cannot be acquired in Spain momentarily. In the future, it is expected to be available.

The new book on Apple Device Design is available in two different formats. On the one hand we have a book in size 25 × 32 centimeters that will be the one with the price of 199 dollars. On the other hand, there is a larger one, in a size of 33 × 46 centimeters and that will finally have a price of $ 299. The work will be exhibited in the official Apple stores where it is for sale, so that users can review it before obtaining it.
