Apple Releases Updated Version of iOS 9.2.1 for iPhones Affected by Error 53 and Apologizes

bug-53

It has caught us by surprise, but because it has not been a launch for everyone: Apple has released an updated version of iOS 9.2.1. And what news does this new version include? Well, it seems that only a very useful one for affected users but that is of no use to everyone else: this second version of iOS 9.2.1 will allow devices blocked by the error 53 can be restored to the latest version of iOS.

With this update, Apple agrees with users who claim the right to repair the devices in any establishment but, on the other hand, it is also allowing what at first they said that Error 53 protected, and that is the possibility that we put a touch ID manipulated and thus access our data. In addition, the Cupertino company has also written a small letter of apology addressed to all users who have been affected by Error 53.

Apple apologizes for Error 53

Some customer devices are showing "Connect to iTunes" after trying to update their version of iOS or restore from iTunes on a Mac or PC. This is reported as Error 53 in iTunes and appears when a device fails a security check. This test was designed to check if a Touch ID is working properly before the device leaves the factory.

Today, Apple has released a software update that will allow users who encountered this error message to successfully restore their device using iTunes on a Mac or PC.

We apologize for any inconvenience, this was designed to be a factory test and not intended to affect customers. Customers who paid for an out-of-warranty device replacement for this issue should contact Apple Care for a refund.

Thus, one of the possibilities that we value when the time comes has been confirmed: Error 53 is, worth the redundancy, an error. Is something that shouldn't have happened. According to the Apple version, it is a kind of quality control created only for checking at the factory. But, on the other hand, if what they tell us this time is true, why did the Apple executive say it was for our safety? I imagine that I had to give an answer to reassure the users, but if I didn't know what to say, it was better not to say anything or say that they are working on it than to worry the affected users, don't you think?

Do you really believe it Pablo? This is the usual MONEY, nothing more. What happens is that this time they have been caught, or rather, people have complained too much and have had to back down. This was nothing more than the attempt to make sure that the repair is done through our noses in an Apple Store paying, of course, a huge amount of money that in another establishment would surely cost us less than half.

Otherwise Apple would not update anything and would say what it originally said, that the Touch ID is impossible to repair in a center outside of Apple but for a security reason about our data, that if they left that "door open", that is to say that anyone could change the Touch ID, our data could be compromised in the event of a theft, etc., etc. Something that in any case would collide head-on with the legislation of several countries, among others, ours. However, in the end this shows that nothing security, or rather, that the fact that a third party repairs the Touch ID does not compromise our data because if so, Apple should warn it and when it is silent, it grants.

What a shame and shame of company. Where are you Jobs? What have they done with your legacy? What a shame, what a horror.

Hi, Alfonso. I am always very skeptical.

What I cannot agree on is that with Jobs everything was different. With Jobs at the helm, Apple was sued for planned obsolescence when they released iOS 4. Jobs made the phrase "you're doing it wrong" famous for failing to acknowledge that the first iPhone 4s had a design flaw, which seems the same to me (" you are repairing it badly »…) than what the manager said this time: a smokescreen or an attempt to fight the masses to buy time. Users also complain that Macs were more robust prior to their move to Intel, and that move was with Jobs as CEO. I say this because we were not so good before and we are not so bad now.

      A greeting.

Pablo should we all update or only those affected by the failure? Personally, when I connect iTunes, I skip the update and my iPhone 6S has no repair.

Hello, MBerrios. It is only for those affected. The problem only appears when trying to restore or update. With this new version available, if you have to restore or update you will do it without problems and error 53 will no longer appear. But it does not depend on what you have installed, if not on what you are going to install.

      A greeting.

Hello! What is not entirely clear to me is whether you can use fingerprint recognition later, or you can just use it just as a lifelong home button. Because if it works well, it pays to buy one like that on eBay because people still do not know and hint. You save a dough.

        1.    Paul Aparicio said

Hello Jose. Those affected have not yet said anything but, according to what Apple says, Error 53 is a kind of quality control that is done only at the factory. It is not supposed to appear once sold.

As you say, it may be worth going to an unofficial establishment, but like everything, it is a gamble that can go well and it can go wrong. The officer offers a greater guarantee, but asks for more money. The unofficial offers less guarantee, but charges much less. It is the affected user who has the power of decision.

          A greeting.
