An Wall Street Journal detail that Apple plans to open its first store in South Korea, the home of its biggest rival, Samsung. The company is apparently looking to open its first Apple Store in the country, just across the street from Samsung's Seoul headquarters.
Samsung's headquarters in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, has a swanky flagship store, this store spans three stories high and is one of the Samsung stores that sells the most devices.
Sources point out that Apple's plan has not been completed and may lead to the Cupertino company at least one year to open your first retail store in Seoul, if he finally goes ahead with the company's expansion plan.
In the United States, Samsung is generally the one that opens its main retail stores very close to Apple stores. In South Korea, however, the roles appear to be reversed.
South Korea, Asia's fourth-largest economy, has long been a tough market for Apple. The South Korean market is dominated by Samsung and LG, but with Apple the sale of its devices through retailers and distributors in the country would decrease by some percentage. The Cupertino company has less than 10 percent of the smartphone market share in South Korea, while LG and Samsung combine to maintain an 80 percent market share.
Opening your own Apple Store will undoubtedly help boost your presence in South Korea and should help increase your market share in the country. Now it remains to wait for the reaction of Samsung in relation to whether or not Apple will open a store in the "backyard" of your home.
