Apple recently released a new Apple TV, although we are going to quote that again taking into account that the most radical change was suffered by the remote control (Siri Remote) and that at the level of power and functionalities the limitations of tvOS do not seem to allow there to be a notable revolution in the general ecosystem.
Rivals to Apple TV such as Amazon Fire TV or Roku continue to lead the Cupertino company in both sales and user preference. Apple is failing to make Apple TV shine despite the constant demands of its own users.
According to Parks Associate, the market for multimedia players for the living room is clearly being led by Amazon. 37% of the market belonged to Roku in 2017, but it has fallen to approximately 35% today, while in that same time Amazon has increased from 23% to the same 35%, so the absolute dominance of Amazon Fire TV in all its variants is very close.
The same has happened with the Google Chromecast which is becoming an almost extinct product, especially with the launch of the new Google model with Android TV that has not seemed to curdle in the market. Apple TV maintains an increasingly lower market share, the cuto has fallen from 15% to 12% during these years, despite the increasingly capable device, it fails to attract audiences.
The main reason is that it has absurd limitations such as the absence of Safari, while devices like the Fire TV Cube that cost half offer a complete experience and which is not so far from that offered by Apple in general terms, as we have seen. Apple still has a lot to do with tvOS, because Apple TV as a device can hardly be blamed for anything.
The Home App does not appear in the right side menu when the Apple TV is going to sleep. I see Airdrop and Search, but not App Home.
How is it enabled?
