Apple released the new app Apple TV Remote for iPad and iPhone, this application is used to control the fourth generation of Apple TV, along with older models of Apple TV. Announced at WWDC, the new 'remote control' app has been available to developers since June and was released to the public yesterday.
The new remote app, which connects to an Apple TV via Bluetooth, mimics the exact use of the Siri remote for a browsing experience that was simplified through different input methods. Its design was inspired by the Siri remote and is a significant improvement over the previous remote control app for the Apple TV.
When content such as movies or music is played, the Remote app has a full "Now Playing" view for control purposes, along with a dedicated menu button and a Siri button. As with the physical Apple TV remote control, navigation through the iOS app is done using touch gestures.
Entering text, such as passwords and usernames, is much easier with the iOS Remote app, as any text field automatically launches a keyboard. Full Siri voice commands are supported. Because it includes the same gyroscope and accelerometer as the Siri remote, an iPhone can be used as a dedicated gaming device to play games on the Apple TV.
Application Apple TV Remote requires iOS 9.3.2 or later on your iPad and iPhone, and works with the current version of TVOS, 9.2.2. It can also be used to control Apple TV 2 and Apple TV 3 devices.
The Apple TV Remote app can be downloaded from the App Store for free.
