As you can see in the previous gif, these new windows are a moving part of the store, they work automatically by opening and closing according to extreme changes in the weather in the area, all of this to acclimate the interior of the store. Built in carbon fiber and following the classic arabic geometric pattern.
To mitigate the extreme climate of Dubai, Foster + Partners designed 18 windows of 11 and a half meters motorized, Solar Wings, which respond to any change in the weather conditions in the area. When the sun is in its highest position and the temperature in the street is higher, these windows cool the interior of the Apple Store, in the afternoon they open to welcome and allow everyone access to the terrace. Inspired by traditional Arab Mashrabiyas (the famous latticework with geometric mosaics), each "Wing of the Sun" is made of 340 carbon fiber modules that together make one of the largest artistic installations in the world.
