Apple updates AirTag firmware on a rolling basis

Apple AirTag

Today, Thursday, a new new AirTag firmware version. As usual in the company, we do not have any information about the news that this update brings. With AirTags, every update is a mystery.

And another "mysterious" matter is the way in which the update will be carried out. in a staggered manner. it starts today for some units, and will end on May 13, with 100% of devices updated. So don't worry, and your AirTags will drop whenever...

Just a few hours ago, Apple released a new firmware update for its AirTag. So in the next few days we will go from having the current version 1.0.291 to the new 1.0.301. And be careful that I said “in the next few days”.

As usual in updates to Apple trackers, those from Cupertino do not usually inform us of the news that they include in their usual notes regarding updates, as is the case with most of the company's devices. So one more time we will be left without knowing what improvements it incorporates this new version.

And this time, the update will be carried out gradually for all devices on the planet. AppleSWUpdates points to your account Twitter that the new firmware will reach one percent of users for the first time today. It will reach 3 percent of users on May 25 and 9 percent on May 13. The launch should be complete for all operational units on May XNUMX.

That means if your trackers are already on version 1.0.301, they are already running the latest software from Apple. If not, don't despair at the latest on May 13 you should already have them up to date.

Sometimes Apple uses this device update system on a staggered basis. It does not do it, much less so as not to saturate its servers, since the size of the AirTags firmware is ridiculous if we compare it with the usual updates of an iPhone or iPad, and we are no longer talking about a Mac.

With this way of gradual update, Apple can react quickly and push a problematic update before it has reached all drives. So we will be patient, and wait a few days to see if our trackers have been updated.

How to check if our AirTag has been updated

In the same way that it happens with the AirPods, Apple does not allow you to "force" your device to update. Simply hold it close to your iPhone, and wait for the update to take place automatically.

What you can do is see if you have already done it, in a very simple way. Open the Find My app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Choose the tab labeled "objects." Select the Air Tag about which you want to see more details. Tap the battery icon below the AirTag name and the serial number and firmware version will be displayed. That said, you will see the new firmware 1.0.301 before May 13. At the moment, mine have not been updated.
