Apple today added an enhancement to the Radio tab from the iOS Music app. From now on, in addition to Beats 1 big, too will show live events they have scheduled. Until now, we could only see what you have in the screenshot on the left, which is the radio logo next to the "Listen now" label with which we began to play Apple's 24/7/365 radio. In the new tabs we will also see the title of the live events that will be broadcast, a description and a cover of the event that is currently being broadcast, as you can see in the screenshot on the right.
This improvement is very positive, since people like me who do not like to wait for someone else to put what we have to listen to, we can see what they are going to broadcast in the future. It is expected that in these new tabs we can also find out if they are going to issue any interview like the ones that have already aired Beats 1 in the past or the 1975 concert they aired at the end of last month.
Beats 1 displays future event information
These types of changes, like some of the App Store, are made from the server, so Apple has been able to do it without having to update the entire operating system. The new tab is showing up in devices that have the latest versions of iOS installed, which are iOS 9.2.1 as the official version and iOS 9.3 beta 6, but most likely they will also appear in earlier versions in the not-too-distant future.
What seems clear is that Apple has to improve Beats 1 if it wants to attract the attention of users who are not subscribed to Apple Music. This may be a first step, but it seems insufficient to me. In any case, not offering on-demand content without subscription is winning the sympathy of many artists. But will it be able to overtake Spotify in the future?
