Apple updates the bluetooth of the iPhone 6, 6 Plus and iPad Air 2

The iPhone and iPad models introduced last year use a version of bluetooth 4.0 that makes it compatible with Handoff and Continuity from OS X Yosemite and now from El Capitan. Version 4.0 of bluetooth is not something new since until the iPhone 5 it already integrated that version. But if we pay a look at the Apple website where we see the characteristics of all the models that the guys from Cupertino have for sale, both in iPhone and iPad, we see that the iPad Air 2, which last year had bluetooth version 4.0 now it has been updated and uses 4.2.

In the case of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, also presented last year, we see the same case. If when they arrived on the market they had version 4.0 of bluetooth, currently they also carry 4.2 just like the iPad. We do not know if this change ise has occurred in the production chain or the change has been made through a software update. It is likely that the change was made via software because the product number remains the same, because changing a part in the production chain to update only the bluetooth version is absurd. In addition, the previous versions of bluetooth 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 could not be updated via software as in the case of the fourth version.

How does this update affect us? Bluetooth version 4.2 is 2,5 times faster and supports 10 times more data capacity compared to the previous version, in addition to improving in aspects such as privacy, security and energy efficiency. Precisely last Friday, new rumors began to circulate about possible new keyboards, Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad that could soon reach the market. All these new devices would obviously use this latest version of bluetooth 4.2.
