Apple wants to continue improving News and hires a former Condé Nast executive

Last May, we echoed rumors that Apple could buy Condé Nast, a rumor that was quickly disproved by the publisher, stating that It was not for sale and that at the moment, there were no plans to do so. It should be remembered that a few weeks before, Apple had bought Texture, a digital magazine platform that in exchange for a monthly subscription, offers access to more than 200 monthly publications.

Despite the fact that the number of countries in which Apple News is available is still very small, the Cupertino-based company continues to expand the resources allocated to this platform and, as we can read in The Information, has signed a former executive from the editor Condé Nast. We are talking about Liz Schimel, who was President of Condé Nast in China.

As we can read on Liz's LinkedIn profile, joined Apple last July and is currently the head of business for News. Prior to joining Apple, Liz was president of Condé Nast in China, as well as an entrepreneur at Comcast Ventures. She has also served as the digital director for the media conglomerate Meredith Corporation.

The hiring of Liz is yet another sign of the growing importance of Apple's News platform, a platform that is becoming a major source of traffic for many media outlets, at a time when Facebook is not going through its best moments due to the proliferation of missing news and has once again put the media aside.

Regarding the possible expansion of News in more countries, the Cupertino-based company for the moment has not announced if you intend to offer this news service in more countries, so for now, we will have to keep waiting.
