Apple Watch Series 7 offers 60,5 GHz wireless data transfer but is not open

This is one of the features that are added in the Apple Watch Series 7 and that was leaked in an FCC document. The news that comes from the hand of MacRumors indicates that the Series 7 offers a 60,5 GHz data transfer option. This option is not open to all users it would be for exclusive use of Apple employees.

This connection offering a 60,5 GHz transmitter requires a "wireless serial dock" patented by Apple with a USB C connection that only Apple employees seem to have to send data to the smartwatch. In this sense, there are not too many details of the operation of this data transmission although it is true that we will not be able to use them either.

It is a base that allows the transfer of data from the Apple Watch Series 7

Filtration shows a base with a serial number A2687 and as we said at the beginning it works with a USB-C port. The connection between the base and the watch itself is made by magnets just like the charging bases for the Apple Watch.

The EUT consists of an Apple Watch handheld device containing a license-free / license-exempt 60,5 GHz data communication transmitter module. A proprietary serial wireless base with a corresponding 60,5 GHz module is required to allow streaming on the Apple Watch. A magnetic alignment device locks the Apple Watch in place on top of the serial wireless base, allowing communication between the base and the Apple Watch. The wireless serial base is powered by a USB-C port.

The document leaked and published by the media dates from the end of August ands Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O'Malley, were the ones who released the data. With this base, as explained in the middle, the connection allows data to be transferred at up to 480 Mbps, which is similar to the speeds of USB 2.0. It may be that Apple wants to access the information of the device without using the port that is located inside the hole for the straps, with this it would be easier to access the watch.
