Pulse Oximeter Discovered on Apple Watch, Suggesting Future Blood Oxygen Measurement

ifixit-apple-watch

iFixit gutted the Apple Watch, as it does with everything that falls into its clutches, and discovered that the included sophisticated heart rate monitor is capable of acting as a pulse oximeter, allowing calculate the amount of oxygen in the blood measuring how much infrared light is absorbed. This information could be useful to monitor our health and fitness activity, but the function is not activated yet on the smartwatch.

According to iFixit, there are several possible reasons why Apple would not have allowed the watch to display this data yet. First, it could simply be that the Cupertino they would not have achieved the necessary precision and reliability sensor in charge of measuring oxygen in the blood. If this were the case, we would have to wait for a second or third generation of Apple Watch to take advantage of this function. I do not see much sense in this theory since why are you going to waste space on such a small device if it is useless?

The other possibility is that the company led by Tim Cook not yet got FDA approval (Food and Drug Administration) to use this sensor. If this turns out to be the reason, it would only take one software update to be able to use the pulse oximeter in this first version of Apple Watch.

The American Food and Drug Administration is not being very strict in regulating wearables dedicated to fitness, but things change when the diagnosis focuses on the health of users, as is the case of oxygen in the blood. It is understandable and appreciated, truth be told. Not surprisingly, Apple stopped including other sensors, such as a glucose meter, because they would not have gotten the approval of the American agency in time to include it in the smart watch, which, as you all know, began to reach the first customers on April 24.

With all my respect. Why don't you review the apple watch and let it be?
This is actualidad iphone. I'm not interested in your news. You can make a sister website about that device.
    A greeting.

I think the same as you, between actualidadiphone and soydemac... At soydemac.com it's been two or three days, which is all or almost all of the Apple Watch... Leave it now or as this guy says, make another website for him. You're already tired eh

I agree ... The Apple Watch is an unnecessary Apple product and I think it will be another failure, not the first edition but little by little it will stop being of interest ... A couple of articles are fine but not 80% !!! Enough of Apple Watch !!!

I agree with the comments and no, in my humble opinion, even if it is called actualidadiphone If they only talked about this, they would put a post up to date. I see it more as iOS news. The W has iOS and also works in conjunction with the iPhone, so I think it is appropriate that it be published about it so that whoever decides to buy it is informed of whether they are interested or not.
Anyway, all the comments are respectable. Let the publishers decide what they want to do, we will decide if we want to enter to read.

I think it is as simple as that if you are not interested in the articles about the Apple Watch, then do not read them, I received mine yesterday and believe me it is happening ... For the same reason I am looking for information and as JBartu says it works in conjunction with the iPhone, so it is not bad that they make publications here, it even seems envious that they still do not have it with their negative comments, I think that until they have tried and used it for at least a day they can not say whether or not it is a Unnecessary gadget, once you put it on you don't want to take it off.

My car is also synchronized with the iphone and for that reason there is no talk day and night about my car.
I think it's great that they talk about the apple watch but with a logical mean and not that this website loses its identity. Ah! And of course I do not read the articles that do not interest me. But if I read the headlines and see that they are abusing a lot.
And responding to the one that says that people are envious, I tell you that the apple watch is much cheaper than an iPhone. Those who do not have it is not because they cannot get it but because they do not want to have it.

    A greeting.
