Apps and services Apple tried to remove at WWDC

services-removed-wwdc

Last Monday at WWDC, Apple presented its next operating systems iOS 9, OS X El Capitan and watchOS 2, to which it was added the presentation of its next streaming music service, Apple Music. As you did last year, those from Cupertino are going to add a lot of new functions and applications to their operating systems that will make us forget about the applications on which Apple has been based to create them. Or, at least, they will try.

If last year they presented, for example, the iCloud keychain, which poses a small threat to other applications such as 1Password, this year they have presented, among others, the News application, Wallet and Apple Music. Will Apple be able to convince us to use its proposals over and above what we already knew? It is probable. After the jump you will see approximately 8 services that should start to get a little nervous before the arrival of the new Apple operating systems.

Alarm clocks

Perhaps the most difficult. And it is not because it is not a good idea or anything like that, but because the Apple Watch, which is the one that would have to threaten the position of our alarm clocks, is not a cheap device. Of course, if we already have it, surely the bitten apple watch is much better than a normal watch.

Flipboard

Apple introduced an application called Noticias (News). Basically it will be an application where we can read news of all kinds. Apparently, it is practically the same as Flipboard. We will have to test it and, logically, if they work the same, better to use the native application, since it cannot be eliminated (something that could also be fixed).

CurrentC

current

The expansion of Apple Pay is going from strength to strength, under full sail. There are already more than 300 banks, cards, etc. compatible with Apple Pay in the United States and this month the number has been expanded twice. CurrentC will be increasingly threatened, and Apple's partnership with Square only adds pressure to the rival payments system.

Google Now

Proactive Assistant and Deep Linking are Apple's proposals to catch up in this sense (I like to emphasize it, since in other things it is better) than Google Now. You can give us information as soon as you pick up the iPhone, as well as propose music by connecting headphones. The future is promising, but I think they still have a way to go.

Google Maps

google-map-android

The new Apple maps will give us traffic information, which bus we have to take, etc. It has a point above the competition, and that is that it will tell us which establishments in our path are compatible with Apple Pay. For everything else, I think Apple Maps are still two steps behind Google's. Although the problem with the Cupertino proposal is in the searches, which do not give one. The maps themselves are from TomTom and are not without quality.

Wallets

billetera

I have had a leather wallet for several years that remains intact. I love it and it was also a gift. With the arrival of the new Wallet, carrying the wallet with you could be redundant, but I think there is also some time left for anyone to leave their wallet alone at home. Either way, it is an inexorable future.

Evernote and Notability

notes-evernote-notability

With the new Notes application, in which we can add photos, audio, draw and also have them synchronized by iCloud, Evernote will not be necessary for many users who have, in addition to an iPhone, an iPad and a Mac. I have Notability, but I won't hesitate to remove it the moment iOS 9 is publicly released.

Soundcloud, Spotify and Pandora (among others)

Spotify

Apple Music seriously threatens rival companies and does so from three different points: a music store, a social platform and a radio station. If one of those points attracts us, it is bad news for the competition. I'm interested in radio (if it looks like iTunes Radio) and the social platform. I am looking forward to starting my 3 month trial.

iTunes Match

By subscribing to Apple Music, our entire music library will come with us. It is true that iTunes Match is cheaper (only € 25 per year), but it is a service for another type of consumer.

I miss another one that they say over there, notes by evernote or other notes. Anyway, of all the published ones I only use google maps haha, itunes match would be the best if apple mixes it with apple music, or they lower the price.

Hi, Pablo. It would be incredible if you could make a note of what will happen to those of us who have iTunesMatch and will contract Apple Music. Do we have to pay for both services? Do you have to cancel any? Will it be done automatically?
    Greetings.

Hello Ivan. That's on the Apple Music website. Beats Music users will migrate to Apple Music just by logging into the new service. ITunes Match users will continue with their service. Apple says they "are independent and complementary." If someone just needs to have their entire library anywhere, iTunes Match is better because it is cheaper (I think € 25 / year). If in addition to the above you want to access the entire Apple catalog, better Apple Music, but a year they are € 120.
