Applications for professional use in Medicine

iPad-Medicine

El iPad is an increasingly common tool at work. Not only because of everything that iOS offers us to help us with our tasks (calendar, agenda, email, internet ...) but because we increasingly have more and better applications for our professional work. This is applicable for most professions, and of course for Medicine. It is impossible to make an article that includes the best applications for use in Medicine, due to its enormous quantity and because depending on the specialty to which one is dedicated, that list would be different. So I want to focus on 3 applications that for me are fundamental and I think they are also "universal", valid for almost all specialties.

iMedimecum

iMedimecum

Anyone who dedicates himself to Medicine knows the Medimecum. A pocket book that includes all medications with all the necessary information: dosage, adverse effects, trade names, price ... We already have the same guide available for our iPad (and iPhone) under the name iMedimecum, with access to the entire drug database, with search options by name, groups therapeutic, laboratories ... and with information on the different available presentations, dosage ... Absolutely essential.

Sanford Guide

Sanford Guide

Almost as well known as Medimecum is the Sanford Guide to Antimicrobial Therapeutics, another of the books that you can easily find in the pocket of any doctor. Sanford Guide is an application for iPhone and iPad, free, from which we can download several books that will help you in your professional work:

  • Sanford Guide to Antimicrobial Therapeutics ($ 29,99): All up-to-date information on treating infectious diseases, with tables and tools like calculators to adjust doses.
  • Sanford Guide to HIV / AIDS Therapeutics ($ 29,99) all recommendations for the diagnosis and management of HIV infection, AIDS and its complications.
  • Sanford Guide to Hepatitis Diagnosis and Treatment ($ 9,99): Information on the diagnosis and treatment of Hepatitis A, B and C.

Downloads are subscriptions for one year that you must renew the following year. A high price but its quality is indisputable.

iTox, Poison Emergencies

iTox

Having an extensive guide for the management of poisonings is essential for anyone who develops their professional activity in an emergency service. This application gathers everything you need: more than 2500 toxic substances (medicines, drugs, animal poisons ...), 50 antidotes, information on the most frequently used techniques in cases of intoxication, with figures and videos. All this presented in a very visual way and with a search engine that allows you to quickly access the content that interests you.

Do you know any other application intended for use in medicine and that is recommended? Share it in the comments, please.
