Formerly with the surname "cam", VSCO began to be a benchmark a few years ago due to the filters it incorporated. It was the time when on Instagram the filters applied a somewhat 'seedy' effect, you could not touch any parameter of the image and, therefore, you had to look for chestnuts elsewhere. Nowadays Instagram, one of the networks to which a good part of the photos that we edit with our iPhone end up, has a higher quality in the filters and also with a built-in editor to change the levels of contrast, saturation, etc ...
Even so, VSCO continues to be one of the most used options (not because of its social network, which it also has) to give that special touch that we look for in our images. A filter store, as well as a good handful of free to download -HB1 and HB2 are my favorites- make this app a quick editing tool that offers very good results.

Special mention in this article is what this app requires. Probably unknown to many but with at least one option worth highlighting. Although it is true that in most aspects it does not stand out above any other, it has an option that, under the name of 'Blur' It will allow us to create a mask over a section of the image and apply a blur to the rest of it. The result? Sometimes something very similar to what we get with the Portrait mode of the iPhone 7 Plus.
Of course, it only has one pass in the images where there are no intermediate objects (since it blurs the entire background equally, without recognizing depth) and, of course, it is much slower to perform than with this year's Plus. Even so, it is an interesting option for specific occasions.
Enlight
It was all the rage at its launch but, for one thing or another, it hasn't garnered all the recognition it might deserve. It is especially striking for the large number of options it offers beyond choosing filters. With her We can superimpose photos, create posters, insert text and an infinity of other options that make it the most complete on the list. If we have a few minutes to start discovering the options you have and playing with them, the results we can get are really good.
It may also be the most complex to use of those found here, so if we have never used image editing programs it is plausible that some of the features may be somewhat complex.
Prisma
One of the most striking in terms of results is concerned. This app applies the filter selected by the chosen image, with the difference that these filters are not the ones we can find on Instagram or VSCO, but they modify the final appearance of the photograph much more. Vivid colors, geometric shapes, comic book or hand drawing look, bubbles and circles… Are just some of the filters that we can obtain by downloading this app.
The results, as I said, are the most striking, but they are not intended for those who want to maintain the original appearance of the photo. The intensity of the applied effect, as well as the area it affects, can be modified before obtaining the final result.
Afterlight
Another of the apps that offers us to put filters to our photos and anything else. This addition means that the filters, despite not being as striking as those of Prisma, do offer us the possibility of touching aspects of lighting and the different contrasts of the image, something very useful in case you want to add artificially something that would otherwise be very difficult to obtain through the lens of the iPhone. Likewise, there is the possibility of adding figures, superimposing images and a handful of other features that lead to interesting results.
Once again, this is not one of the applications that will allow us to edit images faster, but we will have to dedicate a little more time to it if we want results that are really worth it.
Snapseed
We end up with one that, not because it is last, means that it is worse. In fact, it is almost the opposite. At this point there is not much that can surprise us anymore, but if something catches my attention whenever I enter this app, it is how well thought out it is to be used on mobile devices and how well used some of the actions are. It is perhaps one of the most complete that we have dealt with, keeping some similarities with Enlight and where it stands out for the selection of filters and editing options that we can use in just two taps.
If you want to try a slightly more complete app without having to spend a lot of time learning how it works, Snapseed is the most suitable because it has a few tutorials (even some in video) accessible directly from the app. It will be a breeze!
