Surely most of you know BitTorrent, one of the most famous torrent clients, the P2P file sharing system. BitTorrent Sync is a new application that is based on this P2P service to be able to synchronize files between devices, even with other people. Thanks to the fact that it has applications for Windows, Mac OS X, iOS and Android, the possibilities it offers are fabulous. Forget about sending attachments by email, or using USB sticks to transfer information from one device to another. And it also has the advantage that synchronization is direct, without servers, so there is no capacity or file size limitation, nor do you have to pay monthly fees to have more gigabytes of storage. We show you how it works.
The application works between any device that has it installed. All versions of the application are free, and you can download them from the official BitTorrent Sync page, or from the App Store in the case of iOS. The pity is that it is not yet optimized for the iPad screen, but it works perfectly, so hopefully a future update will adapt it, but we can use it now. We explain how to share a file between a computer and the iPad, and how to do it from an iPhone to an iPad.
Share from computer to iPad
The first thing is to install and configure the application on the computer. It is a very simple process. Once this is done, the window will appear with all the folders that we have shared. To share it with the iPad, click on the right button and select "Connect mobile device".
Then a unit’s QR code that we must scan with the camera of our iPad, directly from the BitTorrent Sync application for iOS. We can also select if we want to give full access to the file or share it only as reading.
From the application for iOS, select "Add synchronization folder", and then click on "Scan QR code"
The application will detect the QR code on our computer screen, and we can click on "Done" in the upper right corner.
We will already have the folder on our device. If we click on the right arrow, we can select that the synchronization is automatic. In the Settings menu we can also choose if we want to use the data network or only with WiFi, which is the most recommended.
The file that I have in my Mac folder then appears on my iPad, and I can even view it from the application.
Share from iPhone to iPad
Sharing a photo or video from iPhone to iPad is very easy. In the "Send files" menu, select "What files do you want to send?" and select them. Once that is done, a QR code will appear that we must use the application on the target device.
We must also access the menu «Send files» but now select «Receive Files«, Shorten the code and the transfer will begin immediately.
Application organizes the folders in which it saves the files automaticallyThus, the folders with files received from mobile phones are separated from the folders that you have synchronized with your computer.
The possibilities of BitTorrent Sync are many, it even allows you perform an automatic backup from the roll of your iPhone or iPad to a folder on your computer, so that you always have all your photos saved on your computer no need to sync, not even remembering to save them.
