Whatsapp

More than 90% of smartphone users in Brazil use WhatsApp. WhatsApp has become the usual form of communication between users in the country, so much so that when it has temporarily stopped working, due to problems in the service or due to the blocking of the courts, many users have been forced to change platforms, mainly Telegram, in order to remain in contact with their friends and family.

For a few months, the Brazilian authorities have been behind WhatsApp to ask them provide information related to criminal acts they are investigating, but they have always received the same response from the company. On some occasions they have directly blocked the operation of the messaging application to coerce the company that has always offered the same answer: we do not save the conversations on our servers.

But it seems that the judges of the country They do not quite understand the reason for the refusal of the company so as not to facilitate the requested messages from the suspects who are being investigated and he has returned to the charge. A judge has issued an order to seize $ 6 million of Facebook accounts in Brazil, which owns WhatsApp, since the messaging platform does not have accounts in the country.

According to the judge, Facebook has refused to deliver the requested messages that are related to an international network of cocaine trafficking, an investigation that has been carried out since January, as reported by Reuters. The request for the data has been delayed for five months and the money frozen is due to the amount equivalent to the fines that the company has accumulated in all this time.

Last March, the Brazilian authorities they arrested the vice president of Facebook for Latin America Diego Dzodan for obstruction of justice by not providing the data related to this investigation, although one more day Dar was released. WhatsApp states that it cannot offer this information because it does not save the data of the conversations but also, in April it implemented an end-to-end encryption system for all communications, not only for text messages but also for VoIP calls.
