Calibrate iPhone Battery

How to calibrate the iPhone battery

You know calibrate iPhone battery? The battery of the devices is still today the endemic evil of smartphones along with others iPhone crashes. With all that technology has advanced, our smartphones continue to integrate a battery that barely lasts a day, despite the fact that in recent times battery management in the latest operating systems has improved a lot. The only advances that we find in the field of batteries for mobile devices is related to battery charging. Manufacturers strive to allow our devices to charge as quickly as possible in the shortest amount of time.

A few months ago, Xiaomi presented a battery that together with a special charger, allowed to charge 80% of the battery capacity in just 10 minutes. Samsung for its part is working on flexible batteries that would be useful in future projects it has in mind related to flexible devices. But nothing related to battery life and its expandability.

Battery Charge Diagram on iPhone

When it comes to recharging our iPhone, the first 80% of the battery is charged quickly in order to offer us the possibility of using it quickly. On the other hand, when it exceeds 80%, it slows down the battery charge to protect it and thus extend the life of the battery. When our battery reaches a certain number of cycles, between 700 and 1000, we must begin to think about calibrating the iPhone battery more often than normal in order to extend the battery life and so that the use of the battery by the operating system more efficient.

The first symptoms are shown when our device starts to turn off when it still has battery, based on the percentage shown at the top. That is when we must proceed to calibrate it so that the device knows for sure when the battery has been charged and when it has 1% left, to prevent it from turning off prematurely.

Battery cycles

As we can read on the Apple website, each charge cycle, unit of measure of the batteries it does not represent a full charge to 100% of the battery but quite the opposite. Every time we completely discharge the battery of our device, a charging cycle has been completed. If we use 75% of our battery one day and charge the device the next day, we have not completed a cycle but only 75%. If the next day we use 25% of the battery, we will have completed a complete battery cycle.

If your iPhone needs a battery replacement and calibrating it is not enough, you can get your battery replacement from this link.

In order to calibrate the battery of the iPhone we will need to do it preferably on a weekend in which we do not have to plan to go out, since it requires a few simple steps that take us several hours. Or remove the SIM card and use it in another device while the battery of our iPhone is calibrating correctly.

How to calibrate the iPhone battery

Calibrated battery

  • First of all we must charge the battery of our device to 100%.
  • Once 100% charged we disconnect it from the charger and make normal use of the device. If we want to spend the battery playing or watching movies it is exactly the same, the important thing is that the iPhone drains the battery.
  • When the battery is running out, that is, it reaches 1%, we continue to use the mobile on a regular basis until finally turn off.
  • Once off, we leave it like that without connecting it to the network to charge it. It is very important to leave the device completely without battery between six and eight hours.
  • Once the established period has elapsed, between six and eight hours, we will proceed to reconnect the charger to our iPhone so that it begins to charge. This time we must keep the charger connected for six to eight hours, for the device to get a true measurement of the battery status.
  • It is very important that throughout this process, let's not touch the device at all, so the best option is to leave it in Airplane mode, so we will not be tempted to answer a call or WhatsApp.
  • Once six or eight hours have passed, we will proceed to disconnect the device from the network and restart it. To restart the device we will have to press and hold together the Sleep and Start button for a few seconds until the apple logo appears.

Once all this process is finished, the operation of the battery of our device should improve a lot compared to how it was doing so far, so that it will take much longer to go from 100% to 99% and 1% until the battery is completely turned off. From this moment, being a software problem, our iPhone will perfectly recognize the state of the battery.

Apple Store

If, on the other hand, the battery of our device continues to give us problems with the duration or it turns off suddenly when it still indicates that it has enough battery, the best option will be for go through the technical service Apple to change the battery for an official one.

We can also go to one of the different unofficial services to change the battery but it is not recommended. Like the unofficial technical services that allow us to replace the screen of our iPhone, the components of these services are not the original ones, so their operation can leave a lot to be desired. There are times when it is preferable to change the screen and the battery directly at Apple even if it is a little more expensive, than to try to save us some money and finally have to finally visit an Apple Store to solve the problem.

The price to change the battery of any iPhone model directly in an Apple Store is 79 euros. In the different stores that offer us to change the battery without being an official Apple technical service, the joke can cost us between 40 and 60 euros. It really is not worth it and more knowing the risk that we run knowing that it is not an original Apple battery.

Tips to reduce iPhone battery consumption

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and location connections

IPhone 6s compass

In the first versions of iOS, we always had to be aware of deactivating the Bluetooth connection, Wi-Fi and the data connection if we wanted to be able to end the day with battery, but for some time now, with the improvements of iOS 9 in battery management, disabling these connections does not represent a substantial increase in the duration of our device, so it is not necessary to deactivate them continuously. In addition, the latest models already use version 4.0 of Bluetooth that consumes very little battery and is able to support a linked device without problems all day, such as the Apple Watch.

The same happens with the location of the device. Unless we are using an application that requires continued use of localization, all applications they only make use of it when necessary, without assuming a high battery consumption.

Background updates

IOS background updates

One of the new functions that can affect the battery life, depending on the number of applications that we have installed, are the applications in the background, so this option is always recommended to disable itAs it checks for a new update, it automatically starts downloading it as long as it is on a Wi-Fi connection.

Mobile data

Mobile data on iPhone

Mobile data is one of the biggest expenses in the day to day of our device. Keep in mind that our iPhone is continually looking for antennas to connect to and data usage has a huge impact on battery. You just have to do the test with your device and deactivate the data for a day depending only on the Wi-Fi connections that surround you. You will see how depending on the use you make of it, the battery of your device can last a couple of days without problems.

Mail applications

IOS Mail

Mail applications are also usually an important part of the consumption of our device, so whenever possible it is recommended disable push notifications in addition to setting the most widely spaced check time in time possible.

Use unofficial chargers

IPhone charger

In any computer store we can find a charger compatible with our iPhone, for the record I am not talking about Chinese imitations. Obviously Apple prefers that you spend 30 euros on the official charger but the function is performed in exactly the same way. Even though chargers don't have the same amperage, mobile devices are the thing to do. smart enough to know what is the maximum energy it can support limiting your consumption and minimizing the risk to zero

Don't close apps

Close iPhone apps

Despite the popular belief that closing applications in the background would allow us to free up memory and make our device work more efficiently, it has been a long time since that was shown to be false. If our device keeps the applications open, it is because it knows that sooner or later we are going to use them, otherwise, when we have been using them for a while, the system automatically closes them. If we dedicate ourselves to closing applications in the background, the system will open them again with the consequent battery consumption that this implies, reducing the life of our battery.

Be careful with the temperatures

iPhone overheated

Sudden changes in temperature, may affect the operation of our device, since they directly affect the battery of the same. As a general rule, we always use our iPhone at the temperatures recommended by the manufacturer, but sometimes, especially in summer, we must be careful to use the device directly in the sun. The same happens if we use the device in sub-zero temperatures, especially in winter, for long periods of time.

Sudden changes in temperature, from the street to full alone or several degrees below zero, which we find inside a room can affect and even damage our battery. Fortunately our iPhone has a security mechanism that turns off the device if they are in temperatures not allowed by the manufacturer, to protect the internal components of the same as well as the battery.

Now that you know how to calibrate the iPhone battery, we hope you follow the procedure that we have explained so that the autonomy of the Apple phone returns to normal values and thus you take advantage of the full capacity of the battery. If it has reached the end of its useful life and the calibration does not work, it may be time to buy a replacement battery.

    2.    Luis said

The autonomy of the battery of a phone and I do not say iPhone if not phone in general is that after 2-3 years you begin to notice a downturn and in 4-5 years is when the battery can begin to wreak havoc on power off suddenly or last 30min battery life. If in less than 2 years you have noticed that it is exaggeratedly worse than before, it is that perhaps you are using it too much. Because when I speak of 2-3 years I mean a charge per day, if you do more it is normal for it to be reduced since if I am not mistaken a battery has a charge of 800 cycles more or less.

I wait for my iPhone to turn off but… Does it have to turn off completely? That is, after spending those 6-7 hours of rest with the mobile discharged there is still battery in the iPhone which is shown with the icon of a discharged battery on the iPhone screen, do I have to wait for it to disappear from the screen the battery icon? Or just after spending those 6 hours is it enough?

When the iphone is turned off by battery NOTHING COMES OUT on the screen, from there leave it six-eight hours ...

    2.    beto morales said

You must wait for your iPhone to turn off due to lack of battery, once this has happened, you should leave it like that for about 6 hours (on Mac, 5 is enough) preferably at night so that you can take advantage of your night and sleep well at least once the month hehe, the next day after this time has occurred, you take it to work or to the ESC, and connect it to the AC and leave it charging for about 6 more hours, (theoretically you should leave it connected for two more hours after the indicator change to 100% but one more time nothing happens). It is recommended that after the calibration you let it discharge back to 0%, it turns off, wait 1 hr and then reload it and then give it the "normal" use that you give it. For what you are more oriented, look in the support section, in the Apple portal. Greetings I hope I have helped you.

What happens is that the iPhone 4 does not have as many resources as the iPhone 4s or 5, and that is why the battery is more durable, in the same apple when you buy it they tell you that the 4 lasts much longer the battery than the others for the applications and resources that use the following iphone require more battery consumption

      1.    xaf said

It's not a "memory effect" issue, it's a thing called battery discharge depth. All batteries have a level in which if you discharge beyond that, you are damaging the battery.

Average duration: it depends on the amount of cargo they store,
regardless of use. They have a useful life of about 3 years or more
if they are stored at 40% of their maximum load (actually, any
battery, regardless of technology, if stored without charge
it deteriorates. Just remember the sulfation process that occurred
in the old zinc-carbon batteries when they were stored
      be fully downloaded).

In case you are going to read it at your convenience, it means that if you leave them for a long time without use with a load of less than 40% they can be damaged.

Totally agree, I was very angry because as always the Apple ones only raise the mAh in their batteries a little for more years that pass in their devices, as they did from 4 to 4S and respectively from 5 to 5S. However, I feel that despite being true that Apple's are pure usury with most of their devices, this time they have done an impeccable job with iOS 7 and the new 64-bit processor, I am very satisfied with this new iPhone 5S that now if you see the difference in the use of resources making the battery durable for a full day with moderate use and at least 12 hours with excessive use. +10.

As for the battery calibration, it is relative ... But speaking in a generic way, it has worked for me, only that when the battery has been at least a year and a half, this no longer seems to work, but remember that a year and a half or the best two is already prudent time to replace a battery in a mobile that we have used so much in the event that we still do not want to replace it or do not have the resources to do so.

      Greetings.

I always thought that the ideal is to wait for the phone to turn off due to low charge every day and then charge it to 100% and disconnect it after half an hour. It's what I always do, and I don't have a good battery life, it farts at 12 hours. I think the problem comes because whenever I charge it I use it and the battery heats up, this makes it very bad, but many times I need to use it.

What is certain is that leaving the battery charging all night is bad for it since it is overcharged, so the ideal is to disconnect it after half an hour of full charge. If you ever noticed, in many android cell phones it tells you to disconnect once charged to take care of the battery.

    1.    Luis said

I think I've gotten lost ... but here we are talking about iPhone or Android? For years, both iPhone and Mac have a technology to protect the batteries and even if you leave it charging for 2 whole days, nothing happens because the iPhone will protect the battery.

That a mobile heats up while you use it is the most normal thing in the world, there are those who will tell you that it does not heat up and others will say that it burns, it is all appreciation but what is clear is that while it loads a certain number of chips it is working and if you use it, those chips multiply, then it is normal for it to heat up since it is working twice as much.

Lastly, be happy !! What is it about disconnecting it at 30m from full charge? Go go have a coffee or a quiet dinner that nothing will happen to your iPhone.

      1.    Mauro said

I put the example of android because I thought that in all cell phones that happened since it is the same type of batteries.
I am also not so pending to disconnect it when the load is complete. At about 7 in the afternoon it is already running out, so I connect it and before going to sleep it is already loaded and I disconnect it, it is a routine. And yes, it is normal for it to get hot if I use it while charging, but that is bad for the battery.
I'm thinking of buying the 5s, the battery is a little bit bigger, but thanks to the M7 coprocessor it seems to last a lot longer.

I can't quite see it ... The type of batteries that mobile phones carry today are LiPo (Lithium Polymers) and precisely one of the things that affects them the most is the deep discharge of the bacteria, so in my opinion this type of actions does more harm than good ... (be careful, it is an opinion based on what manufacturers normally indicate).

Clearly, they usually say that for 1 cell (1S) batteries their nominal voltage is 3,7V, recommending that it not discharge below 3V.

“Each cell has a nominal voltage of 3,7 V, maximum voltage 4,2 and minimum 3,0. The latter must be strictly respected since the battery is irreparably damaged at voltages less than 3 volts »

Today, when it turned off, it showed 5 hours 44 minutes. So for my part, this does not work or is not well explained. We follow the steps as indicated in the article. They will never see it! It's about marketing and capitalism.
I really think deeply that companies have long been able to develop technologies that meet all these needs, but they do not do it for the simple fact that as they make small improvements, they will have a reason why the user wants to replace their Old consumer electronics, for this new one that now lasts a little longer the battery or gives a better performance compared to the previous one.

In my personal opinion, that's what it's all about. I give you an example of car engines. Reading you will find that for a long time it has been investigated how to make engines work efficiently with water or electric energy as fuel; It would not be strange that there were already prototypes and proven designs of super fast and unimaginable cars, but this is not taken out for the simple and straightforward reason that our friends in the oil sector would run out of the round fuel business ... So, for now only It remains for us to wait for them to want to do it.

July it is most likely that when you change the battery you have disconnected the wifi-3G antenna. If it is identical to that of the iPhone 4, it is integrated into the lower speaker. Check the antenna cable connection. And that the metal speaker contactors are nested with the base of the screen and not on top.
As for synchronizing or aligning the battery, they are talking about processes of up to 6 hours. I see it a real stupidity. By removing the two screws from the back cover and the screw from the battery connection. You disconnect the battery. Press the power button for about 5 seconds and reconnect the battery and close the iphone. It takes 10 min. And the battery information is updated.

Hello iphoneros, with the issue of the battery I tell you that in an intensive use of my iphone 5 lasts from 4 to 6 hours (PLAYING GAMES, FACE, WECHAT, LISTENING TO MUSIC, ETC) now instead of controlling both the battery and watching every 5 minutes if we get a message I recommend that you enjoy life more and do not be so aware of your phone so you will see a great change in the autonomy of your iphone

I have an iPhone 4 and they confiscated it at school and they return it to me at the end of the term which is roughly the fortnight of October and I found out that an iPhone cannot be without charging for more than a month because otherwise the battery starts to swell or something. I would like to know if it is true or not. Thanks

The iphone does not "turn off just because it thinks by itself that it has no battery left" and says goodbye, and turns off ... What happens is that the battery indicator is not capable of reflecting the real charge, and that is why Sometimes the 1% battery lasts us a lot longer than if it were calibrated, since the iPhone believed that there was less battery, but it does not turn off by itself ... joe, it is because if it had battery left, it would not turn itself off , it simply misreflects the battery, but it would last the same.
Big mistake that in this article

Well, I did not know that completely unloading the iPhone and then recharging it calibrated the battery. interesting now I will do it to check !!!

I have done it as indicated and the result, for me, has been optimal.
I plan to follow the "system."

Hello look what happens to me is that 1 month ago I bought a used iPhone 5 that is almost 3 years old, I noticed that the battery only lasted 4 hours or less so yesterday I went to change for another good original battery and I charged it for 8 hours and In 20 min I had already finished everything and I never calibrated it or formatted or anything else, if I do that, is it possible that it will be fixed? Because the battery I have is new, at 15% it turns off and sometimes it turns on and has 30% battery, what do I do? help!!!

Restore the iPhone to the manufacturer's state and do not perform restoration through iTunes, and download the applications one by one to identify which is the one that generates the failure.
    Hope this solution helps you.

Hello, I wanted to know if you could help me, what happens is that I have an iPhone 5c and it does not fully charge the battery, I have gone five times to a technical service which tells me that it has no problem. The thing is that I charge it and it only reaches 52% charged battery and then it does not advance, it begins to discharge. I don't know why this is happening and it has me scared since I don't have money for another cell phone.

This problem occurs when you do not use an original or certified Apple cable to charge the device. Some allow you to partially charge the battery but eventually it stops. Try with a certified or original one and you will see as if it charges 100%.

My problem is that the power button does not work, so how can I do that reset? My battery is less than a year old and is official from Apple but it turns off when it has 25% so I want to calibrate it to see how it is. Help with the button please

    Hi guys!

Excuse me, I charge my iPhone since it turns off completely and from there I connect it and charge 100% x example right now from 12 at night to 3 in the morning I charge 100% I disconnect it and it happens in a few minutes 10-15 x I have noticed a lot from 100 to 99; that's normal?

Should I let it turn off completely?
Or should I charge before it shuts down?

Right now writing this comment already has 97%; Download the Battery Life app according to to see the status of the battery and I get 'Excellent' I have about 118 charges according to the app and I bought it on December 21, 2016!

Tell me what to do if it's okay or do you think I should do something else? Go any advice to improve the use of the battery !?

I would appreciate it guys, it's an iPhone 6 Plus!

And then, giving it normal use, it holds me until today, Friday night, and at the same time I put it to charge or if I use it a lot, already like wings 7, I am charging it again that if without touching it, let it charge alone without a network as when it restarts only at connect it to electricity so I leave it 🙂

Guys ... it may be that once the battery is depleted to zero, I put it to charge and after a while it turns on by itself
So I can't leave it charging off
is there any way to modify that ??
    IPhone 4s

    Regards!

      hello Mauricio

If so, the iPhone turns on only when it takes enough battery to work. But nothing happens do what it says in the post because it works let it download and keep it off for 8 hours put it in flight mode before it turns off to avoid that when it reactivates it connects to the mobile network and you are tempted to respond to SMS, WhatsApp, twitters, calls, etc. And after 8 hours discharged and turned off at 0%, you plug it into the power, leave it charging for 8 hours and do not touch it under any circumstances or you will slow down the calibration of the battery; That is why it is better to have put it in flight mode before so as not to receive anything at all, or calls that could jeopardize the calibration. I did it like that as they explain it and it has been great for me and the battery now lasts at least two days and if I don't play or am with face, it reaches me after 3 days as when I bought it. By the way, once the mobile takes a charge between 5% and 10%, it will auto-start, don't pay for it, that's why you put the flight mode.

Hello iphoner's, in the instructions to calibrate the battery it does not say that you have to discharge the battery until the cell phone is turned off or until the usb icon and empty battery stops coming out?

Hello guys thanks to the post I have done it and it turns out that it is true and it works. I have been browsing and on Facebook for a long time and it has not dropped from 100% when before in less than the rooster crowed it had it to less than 90%.

Thank you very much for that, it has served me a real outrage.

Yesterday I changed the battery in my iphone 5s and found that it did not last at all. Looking for info I came to this forum, so I am doing this calibration. The thing is, I'm not sure if I have managed to drain the battery, since it goes from 28% straight to shutting down (which was similar to what happened with the old battery). Then I try to turn it on and it asks for a charge. After a while it allows me to turn it on and when I open an app it turns it off again. I just leave it like that and wait 8 hours from now? Thanks
