How to check if a merchant accepts payments with Apple Pay

ApplePay OK

Since last December 1, anyone who has a Banco Santander, Carrefour Pass, Edenred or AMEX card can pay with Apple Pay in Spain. It is no secret that its expansion is going to be much slower than it is in other countries, and even less if we take into account that it has arrived two years late, so it is worth it. check if a trade is compatible with Apple's mobile payment system before we go and get a little surprise for what might happen.

Before commenting on this little and simple trick I would like to say that I am talking about it now because it has been a month since we can use Apple Pay in Spain, but that this system will be more reliable as the months go by, when those in Cupertino update your Maps. That said, I have already given you a first clue on how to check if a business accepts payments with Apple Pay: we will have to look at it on Apple Maps.

Use Maps to check if a business accepts payments with Apple Pay

The process is very simple. To check the availability of Apple Pay in a specific store, we will do the following:

Check if store supports Apple Pay

  1. We open the Maps application.
  2. We are looking for the business we want to know if we can pay with the Cupertino payment service. As I have said, right now there are not many businesses that have their information updated on Apple maps, so to do the test we can search for "Apple Store" or another important store in the country such as "El corte inglés". It is curious that Carrefour being the first compatible non-financial trade, it still does not reflect this on Apple's maps.
  3. Now we touch on one of the options. Your location will appear on the map and some information below it.
  4. We slide the information up. In «Useful information» we will see, or not, the symbol of Apple Pay and a text that says «Accepts Apple Pay». If it has the "V" next to it, we can pay there with Apple's mobile payment system.

This system also works from the macOS Maps application, in case we are making plans from a Mac and we do not want to take out the iPhone or iPad to check it. Now all that remains is for Tim Cook and company to reach an agreement with more banks and businesses in our country.

An article that is worthless. "You can look at it in Maps, but the data is not up to date." Okay, thanks. In any case, I believe that every establishment with a contactless POS accepts ApplePay. I'm using it from Carrefour to the dirtiest Tasca Pepe and without problem.

Well, not every business that has a contactless POS accepts Apple Pay. For example, Simply supermarkets are contactless, but they don't accept Apple Pay.

And why they do not accept Apple Pay, does it make an error when paying or because the cashier says no? With the typical NFC stickers if you can on the Simply? Try to pay without telling the cashier that it is Apple Pay and see what happens ...

The thing that Carrefour does not appear is because it is not compatible with apple pay at the moment, only in the Basque Country, Barcelona and Madrid.

I am using it with the CarrefourPass card, and as long as the terminal is contacless it has worked for me regardless of the merchant, and believe me, I have used it in bars, shopping centers and clothing stores. The only strange thing is that when I use it with the Applewacht, in purchases over 20 euros it asks for the pin in the terminal.
    Greetings and happy new year!

At Carrefour they do not allow you to pay with Contactless if the purchase is greater than € 20, it does not matter if it is Apple Pay or a normal card, which I do not understand, being they one of the first to implement Apple Pay in Spain.

Well, I don't know what the Carrefour of your town will be like, but I always go to buy from Carrefour, and I pay with contactless, the last thing I bought was a PS4 ... and it hasn't given me the slightest problem ...
