Comparison: iOS 6 icons vs iOS 7 icons

IOS 7 icons

The icons of iOS 7 is one of the points that has unleashed the most controversy in the networks due to its new aesthetic characterized by a flat design and very vivid colors, abandoning the realistic design that they have had for years.

As for my personal opinion, I like the new iOS 7 icons a lot, although there are some that do not quite convince me, such as Settings or Safari. It is clear that Jony Ive has taken the simplicity of the iOS 7 interface to the extreme. As a result, there are clients who are very satisfied with the change and others not so much, although in general the opinions are good.

Although there is still a chance that some icons will get a slight tweak, the vast majority sure that they already have their appearance set for everything that is to come with iOS 7.

If you want to know the differences between all the native icons of iOS 6 and the same but in iOS 7Below you have a comparison in which you can see all the modifications perfectly.

I always loved icons, I still like the old ones more and I doubt that there is a moment that in comparison I prefer the new ones. But, I understand that if you want to change the entire interface this is part of it and the change seems fine to me. They're cute anyway, and the change doesn't affect me that much. It will be a matter of getting used to it, it is logical that after 5 years seeing them the change has crashed.

PS: Just as a comment, I was amused in the post that they were presented for the first time yesterday that 50 people appeared saying that they were never going to buy an iPhone just for this, a bit exaggerated in my opinion.

I think that flat icons, even though they are not as attractive as the previous ones, consume less graphics and therefore I think that the system will be more fluid.

    3.    chicate69 said

I am another one of those. I've been testing iOS 7 since yesterday, and I stick with the design of the icons and add to the Control Center (total androyero). But it is also true, as you comment below, that iOS 7 is not only the icons. That is where my opinion is completely opposite. I think it is an outstanding evolution and many aspects. If it weren't for this new design (not for minimalism, but because I think it's a bad design), I would give iOS 7 a resounding A.

    2.    Lucas said

More HORRENDO than the one in Safari there is not. And I'm telling you outside the Apple universe. Always as a non-user (I am an Android and Windows user) I considered that they had a good aesthetic. Here they make it clear why a developer cannot act as a graphic designer.

  23.   aarancon said

The vast majority are a real shame, and yes, I am one of those who will not buy an iPhone / iPad again and my current devices (iPad 3 and iPhone 5) will stay on iOS 6.1.2 until they die due to lack of update .

It is one thing to renew the interface and even change some of the icons (as they did with the sound recorder in the past), and quite another to do what they have done. I understand that there are tastes for everything and that logically there will be people who are even happy with the change, but it is that some, if not most, of the icons seem designed by a child, we give the impression that they do not have any work behind And that they have done them in practically 5 minutes (I have designed icons and I know perfectly what I am talking about), look at Kiosk, Safari or Notes. This can be done by anyone in Windows Paint in 5 minutes without having any idea of design or the use of tools for it.

The change is so radical, so great, that many of us have been amazed. In my opinion, when something goes well, you cannot change it in such a radical way because many users will not understand or share it. What's more, the new iOS 7 is nothing more than a blatant copy of Android and Windows Phone put together. At least I want iOS, not Android, or Windows Phone.

From now on I will have to start studying other systems and devices for my next purchase, which although it is still a long way off I am clear that it will not be Apple. Yes, in Cydia there are themes that can change practically the entire system, and if you create one that does not depend on Winterboard (a real devourer of resources and battery), maybe I will think about it, but of course I will not see Apple as I saw it. up to now.

    1.    Juan said

Do not get so bad, I understand that you do not like it but you will see that later you will accept them. As I said before, I still like the previous ones more, but it is a matter of adapting to change. In addition, IOS is not only the icons, it is the fluidity, knowing that nothing will ever fail, that the updates go to all the devices at the same time, that no external company changes the icons. In addition to the benefit of the appstore, of a cell phone that gives you an excellent size, a feeling of quality, a screen (retina) that no one surpasses.

As I said, if you want to go to another company, obviously you have all your rights, but my recommendation as a user like you is that you think about it more than once. Anyway, I am going to accept that the safari one is visually unpleasant, the notes one is certainly not a big deal and what I am going to miss the gamecenter one (for me the perfection of the design turned into an icon) has no name.

      1.    aarancon said

Exactly, that is what Apple thinks that we will ALL accept it and with me (I suppose that also with many more), they have punctured the bone. I understand that things have to be renewed but what they have done is not a renewal, it is a compendium of what their most direct rivals currently have, that is, they have blatantly copied them, destroying all the essence of iOS that was the distinction of all the rest. But it is that on top of that they have done it by simplifying the entire interface to unsuspected limits.

I've been seeing screenshots of the new look of some of the app's and it's like seeing Windows Phone, icons from the early days of Android, etc, etc. This is simple ... They have destroyed iOS, they have totally destroyed it and I am sorry but I am not going to follow them, I am not an applefan, I have had mobiles of all systems and manufacturers (except for Blackberry which will surely be my next acquisition) because I am not marrying anyone, I buy what I think is the best for me and when I used the iPhone for the first time I was in front of everything I wanted from a mobile in all aspects. This has been stolen from me with iOS 7 and I'm sorry I'm not going to follow them.

It is obvious that my kicking is not going to help me at all, there is nothing to do, I hope that when my iPhone 5 dies due to lack of updates there will be something on the market that fills me in the same way that the iPhone did until iOS 6 because what I am clear about is that Apple is not going to be.

        1.    Juan said

I'm not going to write much more because otherwise we never finished, but I don't think they destroyed it, from my point of view they improved it. As I said before, IOS is not just the icons, but a lot of things for which you choose it. They were being asked for help and better multitasking and they gave it, as well as airplay (I think that was what they put to pass files, but correct me), a better camera and photo app, keychain. It is also its time, Apple copied the notification center (the one that is displayed by sliding your finger from top to bottom, as well as copy and paste, and I do not think it was a bad decision or that nobody has complained).

Also, you can't say "Apple does what it wants, doesn't listen and if you like it well and but also" when you're angry because it copied Android (the operating system that gives you all the freedom you like. I choose apple ( I repeat, ME, in my particular case) because I trust that what you are going to do is going to please me, but in case I feel tied hand and foot with your decisions I would go to Android where you can do what you want ( obviously with the cost of viruses, malware, lag, etc.), but it is in each one.

        http://oi40.tinypic.com/xfw8w9.jpg

It is a theme for Symbian and 100% of the theme is created with vector images (.svg), which is much more complex than working with .png images, which is the type of images that Apple works with. What I want to tell you is that when I say what I say, I mean it knowingly. In any case, it has already been said that the icons in this beta are not even made by Apple's design department and that is why it is more than likely that these will change as new betas come out and especially in the final version. As you see, reason was not lacking.

  24.   aaaaalex0180 said

And, the Safari one, if I didn't like it, it gives the feeling that something is missing, or I don't know ...
And all the others seem excellent and very vivid in colors.

I had high expectations of what Apple could do in terms of UI in its version of iOS, but I was honestly disappointed by the icons.

I believe in Flat Design as a trend since it is easier to interpret. Here we see icons with hyper saturated colors (not to mention if we put high brightness on our device), inconsistency between figures (some have straight ends and others are rather curved) and inconsistency between effects (some icons have shadow, others that require it, do not present it).

I risk saying that it is done in a hurry and due attention has not been paid. Another big mistake seems to me to continue using the squares with rounded edges as a background, if I wanted to take a qualitative leap, the icons should be more independent figures. Note that the style of the Game Center icon is not related to that of Safari, they seem designed by totally different people, without having a common criteria.

    Disappointed.

I insist, simplicity and minimalism are my fascination but here it is not applied in a homogeneous, careful and subtle way, rather it is heterogeneous, aggressive and inconsistent. Apple, I hope you hear us. Greetings to all the community, it is the first time that I write here. Greetings!

I don't know if Jobs would have approved this kind of 'stuff'.

Anyway, I agree that they could have worked on it a little more ... but ... we must not forget that it is still a BETA, maybe they will surprise us with the final program, let's not forget that Apple always keeps something. It was so easy to implement the themes and for everyone to put the ones they want from the appstore. Of the rest of the functions they seem very good to me, but I do agree with many that the icons of ios 6 were the best, I love the game center, very real, you can almost feel the texture. Other changes that have been made in the design have been for the better, but the icons ... well, I think that if other aspects and ways of interacting with the UI change, they also had to change the icons to give more consistency to everything, but I repeat those of ios 6 the best for my taste; hence not to buy an iphone or ipad or ipod for the icons if it seems too much.

I would have liked that they allowed to pass files by bluetooth, those that do not have protection, photos or videos that you record with your phone and want to pass it on to a friend for example.

Well, honestly, the radical change of Apple to redesign the icons, changing the old design left me a bad taste in my mouth, the flat and simple style does not fit in all equipment and systems, I will also keep ios6 for me »In my opinion »I have used other OS such as Android and Windows Phone, but ios 6 far exceeded them both visually and in operation and performance, when trying to innovate everything changed suddenly and in my opinion it was not quite right, although some functions such as Rotating the image while rotating the iPhone is very tempting, not all the new functions were totally successful.
**** IT IS JUST MY OPINION 🙂 MANY PEOPLE LIKE THE NEW CHANGE, BUT PERSONALLY THE BEST OF APPLE WAS NOT MADE TO ME AT THE MOMENT »

A round of applause for Craig Federighi, the one who integrated all the new functions to iOS from AirDrop to the control center, but with respect to jony ive, designer of the worst icons ever seen and an interface that makes an iPhone look like a toy, enough with say they should have just left it to hardware design.

The new icons are the new "Apple maps" in iOS 7.

I liked the icons from before, skeumorphism or whatever it's called. In my opinion Apple has taken a step back when it comes to design, creating a childish and "cheap" design. I think that iOS7 is not up to the iPhone at the moment. And I think that the people who say they like it more than iOS6 are because of the new functions it brings (Control Center, new transitions, etc.), functions by the way, that arrive with a long delay and that we can find them in Cydia from years ago and with better design. It is no wonder that Apple's shares have fallen from yesterday to today, and they have fallen little ...
